Hi ladies Smile

Our 3rd baby girl is coming along in less than a week & my husband and I are really struggling with names that 'grab' us! We would like a girls name that ends in an 'a' or 'ah' sound to go with our other 2 daughters (Amelia & Layla) but so far haven't come up with anything we both like!
I like Farrah...hubby not sure!
Others on list are:
Eva
Isla
Sofia
Ella
Mia

We are specifically looking for something you can't shorten (olivia/Liv) for example...

Any suggestions please!!!???

Also what do you think of Farrah? Honest answers pretty pleaseSmile

Thanks in advance xxx

I know one Farrah who is about 8. I think it's quite unusual and a bit glamourous. A good thing for me.

I would rule out Sophia/Sofia as she will be called Soph.

What about:
Cora
Cara
Tara
Nia
Petra
Leah (too similar to Leyla though)
Lola (ditto)

I think Farrah fits better with your other DDs' names though.

Cara
Clara
Lara
Sarah
Freya

Fiona? It can be shortened to "Fi" but the only Fionas I've known never have been.

I quite like Farrah but it's still heavily linked to Farrah Fawcett Majors in my head, so erm, I don't know.

Of your other choices, I'd say this:
Eva - very popular
Isla - love this one
Sofia - as Kantha says, will be shortened to Soph (ugh)
Ella - very popular
Mia - very popular

You could jump the trend and have Anna or Elsa Wink - I'm quite sure they're going to climb the popularity charts soon!

Do you definitely want one that ends in 'a' again? Some that don't:
Fern
Holly
Skye

I love Farrah. I know a 2 year old one and it really suits her. It's a Persian name I think?

LadyWithLapdog · 27/09/2014 07:40

Farrah is lovely and would go nicely with the other two. Isla, Ella would be too similar sounding to Layla. Imagine getting cross at them and trying to tell them off. You'd stumble on your words and they'd collapse in laughter.

India
Helena
Julia
Zara
Sarah
Talia
Alexa ? too similar to Amelia

Orangeisthenewbanana · 27/09/2014 07:43

Gah! Posted too soon.
From your list, I think Eva goes best with the names of your other DD. Isla and Ella are a bit close to Layla, and Mia to Amelia.

Irishkez · 27/09/2014 08:23

Farrah is a beautiful name.

Others:
Freya
Orla
Iona
Zara
Tara
Helena
Mia
Maya
Jenna (although shortened to Jen maybe)
Maria
Kiera/Ciara
Rebecca
Georgia
Sienna
Eliza
Rosa
Bea
Ella
Thea
Nina

Irishkez · 27/09/2014 08:24

Sorry just realised I've repeated some of your original list!

Clara?

MsCoconut · 27/09/2014 09:42

I like the names that introduce a new consonant sound rather than are composed of l, m and vowels to differentiate your daughters. Sophia and Eva from your list both do this.

Also like the suggestions:
Anna
Clara
Helena
Georgia
Alexa (or Alexandra but both prone to nicknames)
Freya
Keira/Ciara

Bootoyou2 · 27/09/2014 09:48

Anna
Helen
Lara
Mia

Castlemilk · 27/09/2014 09:50

Anna

Emma

Petra

Nia

Celia

Petra would be my choice here. It fits with your other names - short, a-ending but more modern/quirky than the very 'plain' (though gorgeous!) classics like Anna, Emma. It also will NOT be shortened. And is very beautiful and not too similar to your others.

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 27/09/2014 09:58

I know a couple of Amelias who use Mia for short, so I wouldn't name sisters Amelia and Mia.

babyblabber · 27/09/2014 11:55

go for Farrah, lovely and very unusual.

or Ava or Rosa for more suggestions

Not sure if they're what you're looking for, but they're all nice names ending in -a.

Thankyou! Some fab suggestions...definitely food for thought! Smile

I like the name Farrah but if your DH isn't overwhelmed by it you may have a struggle to convince him at this late stage.

Specifically something that can't be shortened, umm....

Posters upthread already suggested Lara or Tara, what about Dana (Day-na)?
