Plum or Boudicca

I'm just musing here not actually pregnant infact recovering from a miscarriage and hoping to TTC again this month but just getting ahead of myself so what do people think of these two which are new to my girls' list

Plum would be Victoria on the birth certificate but I don't like the other short forms except Tory and I'm not sure that'd work

Boudicca great role model, could be Boo when younger which is cute. I really like names with meaning and a story so slightly prefer it to Plum but the dick part of the name puts me off a bit.

Are both completely out of the question for a real life person?I don't even have hormones to blame if so

Erm ...I don't want to sound mean considering what you have recently been through but no I would go with those names. What about the nickname Tori for Victoria ?

Pointeshoes · 26/09/2014 22:44

Wouldn't * grr iPad corrections !

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 26/09/2014 22:49

It's ok you can be honest, you don't expect sweetness and light when you post in this topic

I like Tori all spellings but not sure it is usable for a lefty liberal ex anarchist and I much prefer Plum

Victoria nn Plum.

I don't think Boudicca lends itself well to being teenage and adult years. People are crude.

VainVulva · 26/09/2014 23:16

Use Plum as a middle name then just call her Plum.

Kantha · 26/09/2014 23:23

I know an adult Plum bc Victoria.

Think Boudicca is a bit much.

Hakluyt · 26/09/2014 23:30

Oh, don't be silly. You can't call a human being Plum.

Apart from anything else, it's a slang term for a testicle. And you're worried about Dick.........Grin

A good rule of thumb when your're thinking about a name is to ask a teenage boy what he would think if somebody with that name turned up at school. This is a very good thing to do if, for example, you are considering Minnie.

SirChenjin · 26/09/2014 23:31

Plum is a slang word for testicles....you cannot call your DD that Shock

SomethingAboutNothing · 26/09/2014 23:34

I seem to be missing something, how do you get Plum from Victoria?

hollie84 · 26/09/2014 23:35

I actually like Plum but don't get the Victoria thing... Isn't Victoria Plumb a bath company?

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/09/2014 23:39

What's wrong with Minnie?

I'm not considering it and suppose "mouse" connotations aren't great but...

FrontForward · 26/09/2014 23:39

Orange Pippin?

hollie84 · 26/09/2014 23:39

Minnie is the girl equivalent of willy. Less crude than fanny but not as twee as foofoo.

SirChenjin · 26/09/2014 23:40

A Victoria is a type of plum - like Gala is a type of apple

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/09/2014 23:49

Oh right, hollie. I don't think Minnie is used for that where I am but good to know for future reference!

squoosh · 27/09/2014 00:25

Plum Sykes is a Victoria isn't she?

To be honest Plum and Boudicca seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum to me. One is soft and sweet, the other is charging off into war. I think both would be difficult to carry off.

Good luck with the TTC Flowers

nooka · 27/09/2014 07:31

I think that Boudicca is a fantastic name in theory, but I'm not sure I'd want it as a name (and I have a very unusual name too).

Plum is not very nice at all, and to me completely unrelated to Victoria (and yes I have eaten Victoria plums, but really, using the nickname for that reason seems just a bit poncetastic to me). Surely you could call your child anything you like (including Boudicca!) and then nickname them Plum if you really really wanted to? My family nickname has a fairly tenuous connection to my real name, and my son's had no connection at all (but everything to do with him).

namelessposter · 27/09/2014 07:37

Boudicca is dreadful. Victoria aka Plum is very sweet though.

noitsachicken · 27/09/2014 07:40

I thought this was going to be a joke thread when I saw the title.
Really sorry about your miscarriage.

Let your hormones settle and start again. These are not names for people.

Only1scoop · 27/09/2014 07:42

Love both. I love shorty nick names and think both are wonderful.

meditrina · 27/09/2014 08:01

Plum Sykes is a Victoria. I like it, but think it's quite rah.

And it seems some people are more familiar with the newish plumbing company than they are with the main breeds of fruits.

TheCowThatLaughs · 27/09/2014 08:06

It depends where you live I think really. I'm assuming you live in London if you're considering those names? Sorry about your miscarriage Flowers

TheBeanAndTheBee · 27/09/2014 08:07

I absolutely LOVE plum! DH rejected it for reasons above...

Anjou · 27/09/2014 08:23

Sorry about your MC.

I've loved the name Boudica since I was a little girl, even though - age 6 - I thought it was pronounced boa-da-seeya. It tended to be spelt boadicea back then. I liked the image of a strong women more than the name itself I guess. Now I know the full story, it makes me a little sad. How about Iceni?

Plum. Testicles. Just no. Smile

NumanoidNancy · 27/09/2014 08:52

Maybe as a lefty ex anarchist who wants a back story to the name you could look at all the names of the suffragettes? There are some great unusual ones in the American and English lists as well as traditional ones that will probably come back into usage.. This is a list from all different countries so worth a scan through...
