I'm just musing here not actually pregnant infact recovering from a miscarriage and hoping to TTC again this month but just getting ahead of myself so what do people think of these two which are new to my girls' list

Plum would be Victoria on the birth certificate but I don't like the other short forms except Tory and I'm not sure that'd work

Boudicca great role model, could be Boo when younger which is cute. I really like names with meaning and a story so slightly prefer it to Plum but the dick part of the name puts me off a bit.

Are both completely out of the question for a real life person?I don't even have hormones to blame if so

Actually they're pretty much the same name and meet in the middle at Buddug.

Buddug is a Welsh girl's name meaning 'victory', pronounced Beeth-eeg (with the 'th' like in mother). It's the Welsh version of Victoria.

The root of the word ('budd' means victory in Welsh) is thought to link with the Celtic Boudicca.

Boudicca in Welsh is Buddug which is Victoria.

So there you go!

constancer · 27/09/2014 10:19

If you're naming a canary, dog or something then either would be fine.

Otherwise don't be silly no

Raahh · 27/09/2014 16:19

Castle- that is really interesting. I love the way languages work!Grin

BravePotato · 27/09/2014 17:16

I like both names.

I call my dog Boudi Grin, she is very regal though

BreeVDKamp · 27/09/2014 17:50

I know a Plum, real name Victoria! But always always Plum.

I really dislike Boudicca.

Buttercup27 · 27/09/2014 17:53

Victoria plum as in the bathroom company ??? No just no

CeliaBowen · 27/09/2014 17:53

Boudicca and Boadicea are the same. Pronunciation issues, I would say, both are correct, though.

StoneFoxMama · 27/09/2014 17:59

It's funny how more people know of the bathroom company than an actual Victoria Plum. I like plum, have known a few victoria plums. I would never have considered Boudicca as a useable name until a friend had one and now I love it, she's currently a little Bou which is very sweet.

I have never ever ever heard of a Plum as a nn for Victoria Shock

Every days a school day on MN

EvilTwins · 27/09/2014 18:10

I used to LOVE Victoria Plum books when I was little. She was a fairy or something, wasn't she? I recall a photo of me one Christmas looking very pleased with a selection of books. Has no one else heard of her as a kids' character?

DearGirl · 27/09/2014 18:12

I know a girl called Plum

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/09/2014 18:38

If you don't like the n.n Vicky stay away from Victoria because this could be the name she wants to go by and it's her name so you can't stop her, she may not want to be known as Plum as a teenager. I mean when you were say 15 would you have wanted to be called Plum? Cute names are fine when they're little but she wont stay a little forever. Boudicia is quite nice though. I like Boo for short.
Sorry for your losses

rosy71 · 27/09/2014 18:44

I thought of Victoria plum the character when I saw this thread. I had a jigsaw with her on.

VivaLeBeaver · 27/09/2014 18:49

Victoria Plum was a very cool fairy type person.

VivaLeBeaver · 27/09/2014 18:49

Here

Plum or Boudicca
Bowlersarm · 27/09/2014 18:50

I love Victoria nn Plum.

rubyflipper · 27/09/2014 18:54

My DH was adamant that he wanted dd to be called Boudicca.

Thankfully he saw sense.

herecomesthsun · 27/09/2014 18:54

I am thinking of "Beatrix" related in meaning to "viatrix" traveller" and also to the meaning blessed, nicknames Bea or Trixie, hoping that next time the journey to motherhood will be blessed for you. Also a Latin derivation, and quite a regal name, and an association with Dante and beautiful love poetry.

ClaimedByMe · 27/09/2014 18:55

Now the song Boudicca is stuck in my head from dds school play earlier in the year...

Hakluyt · 27/09/2014 18:56

Just ran Plum past a teenager. The look on his face was a picture. He said that when she's little people will think it's funny because it's a fruit, when they are 9 they'll think it's funny because it's a testicle and when they are 13, the horrible people will make really, really horrible jokes. He begs you not to do it.

bialystockandbloom · 27/09/2014 19:04

I love both. But never heard of Plum as a nn for Victoria - I know a Plum but it's short for Paloma.

love Beatrix/trixie etc too.

pippinleaf · 27/09/2014 19:08

I love Plum. Why not just christen her plum?

pippinleaf · 27/09/2014 19:10

I say ignore all the naysayers. Both names great. I'm a teacher and we get some REALLY silly names coming through school and I've never noticed a child bat an eyelid - they're just completely used to all having different names. Gone are the days when everyone was called Louise, Emma, Kate, Helen etc.

juneau · 27/09/2014 19:13

Er, I'll be tactful and just say 'I hope you have a boy!'

YonicScrewdriver · 27/09/2014 19:16

Can I vote for Buddug?
