sibling for Matilda and Edward

We're a bit stuck and would love some ideas / opinions please - we're expecting number 3 in Feb but feel we have already used the only boy and girl names we were certain about. This time we're finding it tricky to find anything we like as much.

What would you expect their sibling to be named? Matilda is called various things but most often Tildy / Matilda, and Edward is Edward / Ned.

One of us is an inveterate nicknamer if that makes any difference!

Would you like a list of possibles or shall I give you free rein...?

Thank you Smile

Yes, I think we need your short list to dissect.

OverAndAbove · 26/09/2014 20:06

Charlie. Works for boy or girl. You're doing royal names so maybe Henrietta, William or George/Georgia.

Miggly · 26/09/2014 20:16

Thank you!

Love William and Thomas / Tom - but we already have nephews with these names. Oliver is out as that's one of our names (not mine...). Like Eliza, but a good friend has just had one. See? Not easy Smile

Freddie (Frederick) was what DS almost was, so that was our go-to boys' name and I would love to use it but is it too much with Ned?

Other than Freddie we don't have much of a boys' shortlist but possibles:
Joseph (Joe) - but one born this year in extended family
Nathaniel (Nat)
Wilfred (though the rational part of my brain accepts that this is too much)

Girls:
Lucy
Daisy
Flora
Beatrice/Bea (but a friend recently had one)
Hetty / Henrietta (I know, again possibly a bit out there - I just like it!)
Sophia (but there are a lot of them around at the mo)

Middle names may well be George / Catherine after great grandparents.

I love Joe,so go for that.

Kit? The MN favourite boys name?

Or Kitty. Fab name for a girl short for Katherine.

Zara16 · 26/09/2014 20:19

My best friend is called Rowena and has siblings called matilda and Edward, double took at your lo's names Grin x

Bowlersarm · 26/09/2014 20:20

Clearly you wouldn't have Katherine (Kitty) Catherine Grin

Just use Katherine!

Miggly · 26/09/2014 20:31

Ah, cross posted with OverandAbove. Henrietta not too much then? Hmmm. I have a cousin Charlie, and like Charlotte but not Charles.

Zara we don't have a Rowena (yet?!)...

Bowlersarm yep Katherine Catherine may be a little much Smile. DH doesn't like either spelling of it so still have some arm twisting to do even as a middle name! Kit for a boy I could quite like, but for some reason I really dislike Christopher.

Lovely names OP Smile

how about:
Arthur
Henry
Christian
Philip
Alexander

Harriet (Hattie)
Helena (Nell)
Joanna (Josie)
Philippa (Pippa)

I'm not so good at suggesting nicknames for boys, obviously Blush

Tauriel1 · 26/09/2014 20:35

From your girls list, I like Flora. Nathaniel George sounds lovely too!

Miggly · 26/09/2014 20:42

thanks TheWoolybacksWife - I like Henry and Alexander, DH not convinced. Boys we have found tricky each pregnancy to find one with both a long name and likely shortenings that we agreed on.

I do rather like Harriet / Hatty but my ear prefers Hetty so I keep clinging on to that one! Helena / Nell is nice - considered Eleanor(a) / Nell but not sure if that's a bit of a mouthful with Ned?

I think our favourites are probably Lucy / Daisy / Flora despite what I've said about long / short versions of a name! Just to be contrary.

Miggly · 26/09/2014 20:46

Thank you Tauriel1. I was afraid no one was going to say Flora! Grin I like your decisiveness...

Charlotte (lottie, kitty, charlie, lotta)
Christopher (kit, chris, charlie, topher)

baskingseals · 27/09/2014 06:47

You could use Christian and have the nn Kit.
I think Flora is the prettiest out of your girls names.

DeputyPecksBentBeak · 29/09/2014 21:19

We considered Matilda and Edward for our dc. We actually went for Alice and Isaac. Don't know if you might like those? (I really don't mind if you don't)

Spookily, I have three DC of which two have those names. Our third has one of the names you can't use due to family having it already though. So, given that you are in the Norman/Plantagenet era with your royal names, how about:

Richard (I love this one)
Henry
John (radical these days)
Eleanor
Philippa
Constance

BeginnerSAHM · 30/09/2014 18:27

Beatrice (never mind about the friend! Nobody owns a name) or Alice for a girl. Or Edith. Or Eleanor (Nell?).

Boy - James, Joseph?

Great names so far by the way Wink!

Laundryangel · 30/09/2014 18:33

If Henrietta is too much for you but you like Hetty, how about Harriet nn Etty.

Lunastarfish · 30/09/2014 18:37

Toby
Robert

Eleanor
