Me again Blush

What do you think of the name Liv? Is it generally used as a nn for Olivia? This would put me off as I don't want anything too popular.

It would be just Liv onthe birth cert (as in Liv Tyler) btw.

I have an Olivia - it's her nickname.

UriGeller · 16/09/2014 12:32

Hi again!
I think people would just assume it was a nn and her full name was Olivia anyway.

CordeliaClementine · 16/09/2014 12:36

Can you just tell I'm having an obsessive episode re girls names! I'm never going to find one Hmm

That would put me off Liv to be honest. I'm not even sure I really like it.

We had Liv down as this dcs name if she were a she, however its a He. I never contemplated a longer name on the BC, however our DD is Meg (nothing longer on the BC) and its never caused any issues.

At an absoloute push I would use Olive (if I felt I needed a longer name) but i never felt inclined to.

I love the name.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 16/09/2014 12:37

Just xposted though and I would say with a name like Liv you would really have to love it, as it is quite obscure and could raise some eyebrows - adoring the name helps you to not care Grin

CordeliaClementine · 16/09/2014 12:38

Meg is a brilliant name. I have a cousin called Meg though so can't nick it. Had you any other options ThinkiveBeenHacked, you seem to have great taste in names!

I think at this stage I can't see the wood from the trees (or however that saying goes) in relation to names. I'm over thinking it!

Hahah thanks! Well, ill give you my girls list just incase but they arent all as random as Meg and Liv

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 16/09/2014 12:42

beccajoh · 16/09/2014 12:45

I know a Liv, but he's a he. Short for Livio.

I love Juliet from your list, although I think I'd spell it Juliette.

ErmagerdANerknerm · 16/09/2014 12:46

My niece is Olivia and she gets called Liv or Livs for a nn. I'd assume any Liv had the full name Olivia if I'm honest.

Love Erin, that was our girls choice for this DC til we found out she was a he Grin now we are really screwed for a name!

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 16/09/2014 12:49

isn't Liv Scandinavian and pronounced leev?

Leev (Liv) I would assume was for some kind of Scandinavian connection, even just read it in a book for example. Liv I would probably assume it was short for Olivia etc.

plumnc · 16/09/2014 12:55

Yes Liv is Scandinavian - it means 'Life'

Glastokitty · 16/09/2014 13:00

What about Livia?

MrsLettuce · 16/09/2014 13:00

yy, it's Old Norse origin and properly prn. "Leev", more like Love that Leave. I thought it meant defend / er / ed but it's a long time since I've need to name a child.

If you like Edie, Nell, Ivy and Olive you might like Mable.

plumnc · 16/09/2014 13:04

Mrs Lettuce, yes it means that too - especially in the meaning of 'shield;
popular Viking name

magicalmrmistofelees · 16/09/2014 13:11

I know a baby Livvy. Have to admit I raised an eyebrow as it's not a 'real' name, and would feel the same about Liv.

BomChickaMeowMeow · 16/09/2014 13:15

Yep, as Glastokitty said Livia is nice and a Proper Name.

CordeliaClementine · 16/09/2014 13:28

Yes I love Mabel but can't have it as that was our dogs name

PetaPipa · 16/09/2014 13:38

How about
Linnet
Libby
Elise
Viola
Verity
Violet
Edith
?

AWombWithoutAFoof · 16/09/2014 13:51

I love Liv, but would feel a bit daft pronouncing it the Scandinavian way as I don't have that ancestry.

Your DD is going to be at school with a bazillion Olivias, so it will look like you're using Liv as a nickname for that.

Rather gutted for you as it's so lovely!

Do you like Bess?

CordeliaClementine · 16/09/2014 14:42

I like Bess but with a B surname it's not great. Plus my df calls all his cars Bessie (as you do Hmm)

OP posts:
Szeli · 17/09/2014 02:45

i'd assume it was short for elizabeth actually - as it is with the other livs i know. lovely name tho

Szeli · 17/09/2014 02:46

elizabeth covers bess or betsy too!
