Camilla + Francesca

The other day my brother said to me, "is there a posher sounding name than Francesca?" and someone else we were with replied "yes, Camilla"

I was surprised that he thought Francesca was 'posh'. I can see that Camilla is, but Francesca..?!

Really?

Francesca my top name for DC if its a girl, but I'd never considered it might seem posh.

It's fairly posh sounding I think.

My primary association with Francesca is a character in 'Riders' by Jilly Cooper, she is always called Chesca. Ergo it's a posh name for me. I have always liked it though, probably because rather than in spite of the book.

Come to think of it my positive feelings about Rupert are similar in origin.

My mum wanted to call me Francesca and I remember as a teen in the 90s feeling very indebted to my dad for vetoing that one. I'm still not keen on it though it does seem popular on mn.

I think its posh and lovely sounding, want to use it if I have a dd2 but my mum said it sounded 'chavvy' which literally blew my mind-bizarre but think she knew one who was so that where the association was made.
Anyway I think its lovely and Camilla is a fab name too

Hmm I worked for a high profile family with a francesca but also my working class cousin has a francesca so not sure....

magicalmrmistofelees · 16/09/2014 19:46

Hmm I think Francesca is a lovely name but don't see it as 'posh'. However I have a Felicity and have often been told it's a posh, 'horsey' name and don't see that either! Agree that Camilla is quite a posh name.

I knew a Francesca at school. Middle class but definitely not posh. Always called Fran.

I have never known a Camilla who wasn't posh, though. DD knows one who goes disguised as Milly.

With Cesca / Cheska etc. as a nickname I think it is quite posh, not so much with Fran or Frankie.

squeak2392 · 16/09/2014 23:06

I don't think it's posh. A little higher class maybe, but not posh.

I knew a Francesca and sister Harriet at school. I'd thought both names were kinda posh before then, since I'd never actually met one, but although we both lived in a really nice area, it wasn't expensive or posh. They both worked fine. She got called 'Fran'.

OH's mother is called Francesca and as lovely as she is, the family isn't remotely posh.

squeak2392 · 16/09/2014 23:08

I've never known a Camilla but I love the name. I don't think it's exclusively posh, but it's certainly a name from The Telegraph.

My name is Camilla and I love it (thank you parents!)!! Grin

My best friend's name is Francesca - she hates "Fran" so has always been "Ches" (pronounces "chess" like the game).
