brother for Archie / Esme?

We have a 10 yr old Archie and 9 yr old Esme - now a 1 week old that we were (maybe will) going to name Albert / Albie - but now second doubts (aghhhh!) as Albie doesnt feel name gels with his adorable face!

Also like Arthur but dont think we can have Archie and Arthur (nn = Archie and Arty) as it will be too coincidental?

Thoughts?>

Peraonally, I think that Albert is okay but don't really like Albie as a nn. That's just my personal tastes; please ignore if Albert/Albie is what you decide to go for!

I agree that Archie and Arty sound too similar as brother's names.

I assume that you like Victorian-era/late 19th/early 20thC names as your eldest children are Archie and Esme?

How about:
James
Francis
Henry
Rufus
Harry
Charles
Charlie
Wilfred (Wilf)
William (Will/Billy)
Edward (Ed/Eddie/Ted/Teddie)
Thomas (Tommy/Tom)
George

HTH, and congratulations! Smile

How about Bertie as a nn for Albert instead of Albie?

Molotov · 15/09/2014 16:34

Yes, Bertie is sweet Smile

Albert (Albie) is one of my favourite boys names. I Also like Herbert (Herbie), but think Albert is probably easier to live with. It goes perfectly with Esme and Archie. Bert/Bert is also a good nn option. Not keen on Arthur personally.

Montsti · 15/09/2014 19:30

Bertie is lovely - I would go for that over Albie.

moxon · 16/09/2014 05:30

Same category: Algernon? Cosmo? Mungo? Harold? Tbh I absolutely love Dickon (cf brilliant character in 'the secret garden', so have loved it since childhood) but I guess it could pose problems for some kids. However, if you have a confident family as a whole, it might not be an issue at all. Archie, Esme & Dickon. I like. Smile

Surfsup1 · 16/09/2014 06:06

Edward or Edmund nn Teddy?
What about Bertie instead of Albie?
Thomas/Tommy/Tom
Hugh

Surfsup1 · 16/09/2014 06:07

Or Gilbert/Gil/Bertie (because I loved Ann of Green Gables!)

aoife24 · 16/09/2014 19:25

I think Zander works well with those.

aoife24 · 16/09/2014 19:26

you know, the Scottish thing.

Corabell · 16/09/2014 19:33

ProudAsPunch92 · 16/09/2014 20:25

We have an Archie and if this baby is a boy Albert is on our shortlist :) others on our shortlist are Henry and Edward Smile

eatyourveg · 16/09/2014 21:01

Noah?

elfride · 17/09/2014 12:29

Edward nn Ted/Teddy?
Alfred nn Fred?
Sidney
Stanley

cherrybombxo · 17/09/2014 16:41

I really dislike Albie, it sounds soft and drippy. I would suggest Charlie or Harry.

moxon · 19/09/2014 06:25

What did you go with, OP?

torpebble · 23/09/2014 14:35

Sorry for the slow response!

First - quick thankyou for those taking time to respond.

We are STILL not sure - and baby is 2.5 weeks

I still love Albert (nn Albie) but other half less certain - albeit thats the name we are often using in the house.

Another late runner is Teddy (Ted) but rumour has it (mid wife) its pretty popular.

....So still deliberating!

Thanks!

....STILL not sorted....ahhhhh!

new names in the mix are
Monty
Rupert (Rups?)

But worried they are a bit too posh, which we are not!

Also maybe Robert / Robby (nn) as a more conventional option and husbands middle name

moxon · 04/10/2014 07:46

I'm putting Dickon (ala The Secret Garden) back in the ring.
But Monty will also work.

fsadler · 04/10/2014 09:03
