Karin/Karen and other 'K' names?

PrettyLittleMitty · 13/09/2014 11:21

We are due our second dd in 2 weeks and still haven't got a name.

We agree that we want to use a 'K/C' name as they sound nice with our rather unusual surname.

I like Karin (ka-rin) dh prefers Karen (ka-ren), dd1 has named the baby Carrie (which makes me think of the film of the same name!).

Opinions and suggestions needed, thank you.

How about Ciara - Irish name, pronounced Keer-a

CurlyWurlyCake · 13/09/2014 13:13

I like Katrina

Nolda · 13/09/2014 13:17

I know a Karin (family has a Swedish connections). And she has had a lot of problems with mispronunciation etc. She often tells people to pronounce it as in car insurance.

MrsLettuce · 13/09/2014 13:19

Karina is probably more doable for the British than Karin. There are a lot of Karins where I am but never, ever a Karen.

Kim, Kourteney, Khloe, Kendall.......did I miss one? Wink Wink

DD is Kaia.

Kirsten?

nagynolonger · 13/09/2014 13:26

Karen is a 1950/60 name so is due a come back. I think it's a lovely name and difficult to shorten if that bothers you. Caroline is another one from the same era.

Kristina is also lovely.

Kylie, Cointreau

If you go for anything that sounds close to Karen (Karin, Karyn, Karien, Caryn) it will always get misspelt as Karen. I love Kerensa suggested upthread, which is similar in sound to Karen. It means 'love' in Cornish.

Cerys? (Kerriss)

I actually like Karin and Karen

Sunflowersareblue · 13/09/2014 20:16

Karen is definitely dated.

I have a new one for you. I have a relative called Keren. How about that? It's from the bible, she was one of Job's daughters. Nice and unusual.

MimiSunshine · 13/09/2014 20:20

I know a Karen pronounced car-ren but she does get Karen as in the more usual English pronunciation.

How about Ceri? I know a Keri which I like but slightly prefer the Welsh one. And K/Ceri sounds similar to Carrie which your DD has chosen.

AryaOfHouseSnark · 13/09/2014 20:23

I love carina or Corrina, I quite like Corrine but it just reminds me of Corrine Dollenger / Foxworth.
coralline ?

shartsi · 13/09/2014 20:27

Carmen, Karmen

BellaVida · 13/09/2014 20:32

Not keen of Karen or Karin, but Karina is nice.

I love Constance- Connie for short!

PrettyLittleMitty · 13/09/2014 20:35

Some great suggestions, thanks everyone.

I really like Keren and Corrine. I'm going to put them to DH and see what he thinks.

Thanks for all the replies.

Carys. Or Katherine. Or Cara.

Karen is a nice name,, but definitely dated! Ask your OH to find any real life ones under the age of 30!

RiverTam · 13/09/2014 21:23

if you go for it, the more usual spelling is Corinne, not Corrine.

Karen is definitely a 70s name, doubt you'd find one under 30. But that's not to say it isn't nice, and could be due a comeback.
