I like these names but dont know which one i like best ?

The names are :

Arra (ah-ra)

Arys (ah-riss)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Arys sounds like cockney rhyming slang.

But i probably still prefer it.

Gugglebum · 10/09/2014 00:06

I prefer Arra. Both pretty though.

Blueistheonlycolour · 10/09/2014 00:14

Round these parts, arys is another word for arse......

itsbetterthanabox · 10/09/2014 01:59

Are the boy or girl names?
Arra is the best out of the two but both are not great.

I'm trying to think of a way to put this politely OP, but those names are not good!

You can't go with Arys - you will effectively be calling a child arse, especially once at school.

The other is not so bad but Ah-ra isn't nice to me, and in fact everyone will think it is 'a'-ra.

Go for Arra if you must have one, but I'm sorry to say I'd suggest rethinking.

temporaryusername · 10/09/2014 02:08

ps. Have you thought about Sara?

ColdCottage · 10/09/2014 05:04

Arys, both are nice but I think more people will know how to say that one.

InfiniteJest · 10/09/2014 05:17

Arra. It's pretty. I just said Arys out loud and with my Aussie drawl it definitely sounded like arse.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 10/09/2014 06:07

Best of a bad bunch is Arra but they are both pretty dire IMO. Sorry OP.

SignYourNameInBrownAndFlame · 10/09/2014 08:38

Definitely not Arys, you'd be calling your baby Arse!

florascotia · 10/09/2014 10:00

Arys is the name of an old French perfume company, and a railway-industry town in Kazakhstan. It does not sound good in English, for reasons already given.

I'm sorry, but to me Arra either sounds like a cough or, in (eg) a Scottish accent with rolled 'rrs', rather like a dog growling. ARRA is the acronym of a famous American economic law.
On the other hand, if it helps, the Internet says that Ara is used as a name in some countries: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ara And it's the name of a lovely constellation (Ara=the altar).

There is also Carys (= beloved in Welsh), or Arya (=noble in Sanskrit). Both are nice names.

Arys.
