Is the name Sadie really popular?

Exactly that really! Its our favourite girls name so far with some time left to go. I know of one but don't actually know any despite having two children, both in school and we've never met one in baby groups or anything.
I've got an Isla and it's sooooo popular, there's always one wherever we go so I want to avoid that happening again if I can help it.
My second favourite is Elsie but I've heard of a few recently so I think that's on the up too.
Thanks! Xx

Ha ha, don't be sorry, it goes beautifully! I just wanted something else.

I've got so many girls names that I love but nothing goes with our surname as it's a quirky one so I thought I could be a bit more adventurous with the middle name as you only say it when you're angry with them or on forms that you fill in! ;)

I know three within a circle of school friends and one at nursery. They are varying ages, up to 8.

I have a 9 week old Sadie, we went for it as it's a "proper name" (although I know originally a nn for Sarah) that no one would have trouble pronouncing, but it's unusual enough that we don't know any others. Although maybe that's about to change! Grin

Love Sadie, never met an Isla so not popular here.

Passthebiscuitspls · 08/09/2014 13:03

Where are you MrsJones?? I'm guessing not up North like me? :)

I love the name Sadie - it's number one on my girls name list for bump due in December - not met another one (yet!) :)

I've never heard of it. It seems popular on here but not sure if that translates into real life...I doubt it.

Fwiw I think it's really dated and I'd put it in the "Tracey, Sharon, Stacey" bracket, but clearly I'm in the minority as everyone else seems to like it ??

littlewhitebag · 09/09/2014 21:42

Sadie is my dogs name. I love it but it conjures up stinky, but beautiful, yellow lab to me!

sonniebonnie · 09/09/2014 22:55

I'm afraid I don't like it either. Looks like Sad-ie, someone sad, to me.

Passthebiscuitspls · 10/09/2014 09:56

Ha ha, I'm not so bothered if you don't like it. It would be a rubbish world if we all agreed on every name as we'd all be called the same! A few people haven't liked both of my previous names for my kids, they are their names now and couldn't be anything else so I've never been bothered by that.

Just really pleased it doesn't seem that popular. That cements the name for me, it's number one on the girls list. Thanks for everyone's help! Xx

I really like it.

I've only met two Sadie's in my life. Go for it!

Verynearlytea · 11/09/2014 16:25

I know two and have it on short list as it was one of the great grandmothers names.

In England and Wales Sadie was not in the top 100 for baby names given in 2013. Elsie is at number 47 and rose 23 places last year and has risen 361 places since 2003. So Elsie is far more popular. Although that doesn't account for any kids called Sarah who are Sadie as a nickname.

In Scotland Elsie is ranked 177 with 26 babies called Elsie in 2013 and Sadie is ranked 136 with 35 babies named Sadie in 2013. So Sadie is more popular than Elsie in Scotland.
