Anyone have a Hugo?

We have a ridiculous difficult surname that it proving hard to pair with anything!

One name that we are thinking about is Hugo. But I have two concerns - does it sound really pretentious and what is it likely to be shortened to?

I like the name in theory, but am struggling with seeing myself shouting this out in the park (Even though I live in Naice area).

BTW - we're having a surprise, so this may be a moot point if it turns out to be a girl!

Thoughts?

I think it does have an air of grandeur about it....although I'm sure it won't be long before we hear it hyphenated being screamed in a supermarket aisle....

I would have had one but he turned out to be a girl!

I love it and was worried about it seeming pretentious but we are so not pretentious I got over itGrin

I've never associated Hugo with upperclass Englishmen! (Although I must admit I don't really know any!)

My first thought was that it sounds quite American to me (not in a bad way). There was a Hugo in the series Lost. He was one of my favourite characters. Infact, that show had a lot of good names.
