TTC baby number one and it's taking longer than we'd like Sad and recent tests on DH have indicated it's not going to be straightforward for us...Still daydreaming about baby names though. Honest feedback sought:

Girls:

Aurelia (pronounced Aw-ray-lia, nn Rae)
Clara
Elodie (nn Ellie)
Fearne
Lara
Kate (nn Katy)

Boys:

James (nn Jim or Jamie, not sure)
Joseph (nn Joe)
Kit
Nathaniel (nn Nate)
Rory

I adore Aurelia and Kit.

Good luck with your TTC journey.

Will comment on the girls:
Clara. Lovely. Hear it a lot on baby name sites but don't know any children called Clara in RL.
Elodie. Same as above but know one baby. Don't like the nn Ellie as that is very popular. Prefer Melody.
Lara. I prefer this to Clara
Kate. Brilliant! Short and cute. Will age well.
Fearne. Its OK

Other names:
Cassie
Laney
Annie
Eleni
Saffron
Bessie

burgatroyd · 26/08/2014 09:28

Oh and good luck!

UriGeller · 26/08/2014 09:28

Hmm. Ok. I don't like Rae and Aurelia is a bit frilly and princessy.

Clara is nice I guess but a little bit of a "I couldn't think of anything more interesting" sort of name.

Elodie and Ellie. No. Same reasons as Clara.

Fearne is lovely but I'd spell it Fern.

Lara and Kate/y same as Clara. Just "nice". If thats what you're going for then ok.

James is ok. I guess.

Joseph - Joe is the best boys name. Simple, classic and conjures up a sweet, sturdy lad.

Kit. Christopher. Meh.

Nathaniel is ok, Nate is great!

Rory. Well, I'd never even consider it because I have slight 'r' pronunciation issues. He'd be called "worwy".

burgatroyd · 26/08/2014 09:29

Just read the last bit of nn...

So:
Cassia
Elaine
Anoushka
Elizabeth

Gemerama82 · 26/08/2014 09:31

Thanks Burga and Kate

Aurelia - It's okay, not that keen though.
Clara - Like it.
Elodie - Love it, my favourite of these. Prefer the full name to the nn Ellie.
Fearne - Like it.
Lara - It's okay.
Kate - Like it but would go for Katherine and use Kate/Katy as a nn.

James - Love it, classic. Prefer Jamie to Jim.
Joseph - Love it.
Kit - Like it but only as a nn for Christopher.
Nathaniel - Love it, my favourite of your boys names, also love the nn Nate. Nat is nice too.
Rory - Love it.

lottiegarbanzo · 26/08/2014 12:45

I would pronounce Aurelia awr-EE-lee-a and think your pr. must be a different name.

Gemerama82 · 26/08/2014 13:22

Thanks all. Rali Elodie is our favourite girls name too and Rory, Joseph and James are faves for the boys.

Lottie, Aurelia can be pronounced either way. The only one I know in RL pronounces it the way you said, but I prefer it the other way. TBH I can't imagine actually calling my child that, but I think it's such a beautiful name.

Love ALL the boys names. Personally I am having a regret that we didn't call one of our DSes James as I love all the names James/Jamie/Jimmy/Jim so I'll single that out.

Not keen on most of your girls names although I love Lara.

I hope you have five boys though, and use all those names Smile

Gemerama82 · 26/08/2014 13:30

Quints! :)

Aurelia (pronounced Aw-ray-lia, nn Rae) Terrible, sounds like oh really? very hard to say
Clara lovely
Elodie (nn Ellie) ok, pretty, v popular
Fearne like it, seems more like a good middle name to me though
Lara pretty, like it don't love it though leonora nn Lara?
Kate (nn Katy) ok, but dull perhaps

Boys:

James (nn Jim or Jamie, not sure) Ok
Joseph (nn Joe) Ok
Kit - Ok
Nathaniel (nn Nate) Ok
Rory - I like it best from this bland list

Gemerama82 · 26/08/2014 13:35

Is Elodie very popular though? I see it a lot on here but yet to meet one in RL

OP posts:
Gemerama82 · 26/08/2014 13:57

Apparently Elodie was 194th in the UK in 2013, so not popular at all really, but clearly on the rise.

Sophronia · 26/08/2014 15:17

I like Aurelia, Clara, Lara and Kate (prefer as a nn for Katharine), but I'm not keen on Elodie and I don't like Fearne (particularly this spelling of it - it has 'fear' in it. Fern would be better)

From your boys list I like James, Joseh, Kit (prefer as a nn for Christopher) and Nathaniel is ok. I'm not a fan of Rory.

Guin1 · 26/08/2014 15:17

I think there a lot of girls with nn Ellie around. It can be used for so many names - Eleanor, Elise, Ellen, Elsa, Elodie, Elizabeth, Ella, etc, etc.

My favourites from your lists are Lara and Nathaniel.

Lunastarfish · 26/08/2014 18:38

Aurelia is so beautiful. Don't ruin it by going for Rae!

Kit for boy

Orangeboat · 26/08/2014 22:30

In the following order
James -love it
Rory-like a lot
Joseph- like

Katy- prefer Katherine
ferne- spelt Fern
Clara

Mrsjinglejangle · 26/08/2014 23:42

Clara and kit are my favourites from your list Nate is also nice

LittleErin · 27/08/2014 11:03

Elodie is not that popular..274 babies named it last year. I like it
