A sister for Luke

We're having a girl in 11 weeks time and are going inane trying to decided on a name:
So far the shortlist is:
Katie (but not Catherine, but then I worry that Katie alone isn't a 'adult' name)
Grace (not Gracie)
Emily (love it but similar to her cousins name)

My husband and I cannot agree and it's getting stressful.

I'm open to suggestions - help please!

Go for the one you love. How similar can it be? we have an Amy and and Emily in the same family - sisters. Didn't think about the similarity in advance but we cope! cousins would be fine

or go for Leia (couldn't resist!)

Kantha · 23/08/2014 12:04

Not keen on Grace. I think it will date.

Katie and Emily much more classic.

I prefer Katie, but think Kate is more grown up for the BC, you can then still call her Katie if you wish.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/08/2014 12:18

Love Luke. Like Emily best from your list but wouldn't use it if close to cousin's name.

Luke and:
Rachel
Rebecca
Elizabeth
Sarah
Jennifer
Helena
Susannah
Martha

To actually answe you question op , after I thought Leia I did think Emily , without having read your op ! Smile

Thanks everyone - this is helpful :-) I love Emily, the cousin is Emelia so it's very close. We're a close family too so they will be spending a lot of time together.... My SIL says she truly doesn't mind it being so similar but I keep thinking of them both being called 'Em' when their older. So tricky...

TBH I think Emily is too close to Emelia. If it was Amelia that would be just about ok, but the two Em's it's a bit much.

I like Katie, but also unsure if it is "grown up", I personally would have Katherine.

I also like:
Luke and Hannah
Like and Olivia
Luke and Georgia
Luke and Sarah
Luke and Jessica

Bowlersarm · 23/08/2014 18:12

I love Luke.

Personally I don't like Katie as a stand alone name. Not keen on Grace. I think you can have Emelia and Emily as cousins-the first syllable isn't the same pronounciation.

But suggestions:

Charlotte
Georgia
Sadie
Phoebe
Jessica
Amber

You neeeed Leia (or Leah). :o

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/08/2014 19:38

I'd definitely avoid Emily with an Emelia already in the family, even if SIL says it's okay tbh. Far too similar.

FoodieMum3 · 23/08/2014 20:51

Luke and Ella

BellaVida · 23/08/2014 21:06

I like Charlotte, then they could be Luke and Lottie ;-).

I like Grace, but not Katie as a stand alone name.

I think Emily is too similar to Emilia, but what about Eleanor, Elodie, Amy, Esme.

Teatimecakes · 24/08/2014 20:36

The husband is loving the idea of leia! Lol! Think it's going on the veto list though! :-)

I like Grace from your list.

Other names
Lucy
Hannah
Charlotte
Kerry
Sophie
Constance nn Connie
Martha
Milly
Molly
Ivy
Tilda nn Tilly

iwouldgoouttonight · 24/08/2014 20:54

I know a Luke and Sophie, I think they go well together. I like Katie or Kate too.

jaden4409 · 31/03/2021 11:02

Luke and Milly?
I know a Milly who's full name is Emily. Could name her Emily for the BC

zigaziga · 31/03/2021 11:05

I immediately thought Tess.

I like your list though for me Katie is a nickname.

partyatthepalace · 31/03/2021 20:47

Luke and Kate is a great combo - less keen on Katie - I do think they are both nns though - if you don’t like Katharine there is Catriona, Katrina, Catarina, Caitlin, Katell... Luke and Catriona works well.

Grace nice too, and Emily fine - but both of these v popular though...

Jessica nn Jessie, Susannah, Tess/Tessa, Verity, Lara, Elizabeth nn Libby, Imogen, Eloise, Clara, Beatrice nn Bea, Eleanor or Penelope nn Nell or Ella, Rosa, Annabeth, Marianne

NotATomato · 31/03/2021 21:44

The is child is now 6! I’m fairly sure she’s got a name sorted. Hmm

Could you go for Caitlin, and shorten to Katie or Kate?
I love Emily but think it's a bit too similar to her cousin.
