Which would you choose?

Noah or Reuben?

I love both, but am more drawn to Noah. Initially I was put off by the fact that it's so popular, but I think I've decided that I like it too much to care. I say I, but my husband is in agreement with this!

We came up with Reuben as a but of a compromise as it is less popular, but I have since realised it is on the increase and if it ends up being as popular as Noah I wonder if I will regret not just choosing the name I love. I do love Reuben too, but Noah just seems to fit us more.

Which would you go for and why?

I'm open to other suggestions but should probably mention that a biblical name isn't a requirement. In fact I don't really like any others.

Thanks!

I completely agree with you. I really like them both but prefer Noah. I think Reuben is becoming much more popular and could reach Noah.

Go for Noah if you prefer it. It's a really lovely name.

Given that Noah and Reuben are two of my favourite boy's names too, maybe you'll like some of my other favourites:

Nicholas, Patrick, Felix, Alexander (Xander), Isaac, Oscar, Finley, Nathaniel and Harry.

I prefer Reuben.

Thanks for your replies.

Manic, I can't use Isaac, Finley or Harry. Nathaniel and Oscar are on the list, but DH isn't so keen on them. We might use Nathaniel as a middle name though. I like the way it flows with Noah.

I think you should go with Noah as you both love it. Why compromise with Reuben or anything else?

ralinax294 · 22/08/2014 15:15

I much prefer Noah. I also agree that Noah Nathaniel flows nicely.

I have a Noah and I LOVE his name. it was way less popular when we picked it and the fact it was unusual was one of the reasons we chose it so I was really annoyed when it shot up the list the year after he was born. but i'd choose it again no matter what, it's such a gorgeous name so don't care if there are now loads of them.

if it's your preferred one out of the two pick it. if they were both at joint tenth on the list which would you pick? i'm not paying much heed to popularity when picking baby names again as picking Noah taught me, there's no point!

Michonne · 22/08/2014 19:57

babyblabber, that is very true! The same thing happened with our DDs name actually so I should know better than to worry about it too much!

I suppose I would just like to avoid them being one of several in the class when they get to school.

I like them both, but I think I slightly prefer Noah. Funny what you say about Reuben becoming equally as popular as Noah - I only know two Reuben's under the age of six, whereas I know five Noah's born in the last 18 months. If the popularity of the name doesn't bother you, go for the one you prefer.

Have you considered Jonah? Similair vibe to Noah but less popular I think.

DramaAlpaca · 22/08/2014 23:53

I would go for the name you really love and not worry about its popularity.

Montsti · 23/08/2014 19:48

Noah

Happy36 · 23/08/2014 19:50

Choose the one you prefer in your heart of hearts and, if you want, have the other as a middle name.

The only thing I have to add is that Noah seems to be extremely popular. (If that´s something you want to take into account).

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/08/2014 19:51

Noah - lovely name.

Squirm · 23/08/2014 20:40

Noah is far nicer. Reuben will be top 10 too in a few years.

FoodieMum3 · 23/08/2014 20:53

I adore Noah.
I'm 37 weeks with a boy and dh just doesn't like it :-(
