What do you think of the name Kit for a boy?

We are narrowing it down to;

Kit
Joe
Mitch
Enzo

Out of all those I'm most keen on Kit, but interested in others thoughts on it?

I like it. Would it be short for anything?

Legionofboom · 22/08/2014 08:36

I like it. I prefer it as a nn for Christopher or Kester.

It was relatively unheard of it is now popping up a lot so it may well become very popular if that bothers you.

I love Joe from your list. Not keen on Mitch and Enzo.

Rosienose · 22/08/2014 08:42

Yes we would use it as a nick name for a full name. I think its nice to have the longer name to revert to.

Mitch and Enzo are my DH's choices :)

I love kit. I have a Nate and if this one was a boy, I'd have gone for kit possibly short for kester. Love, love, love it.

Rosienose · 22/08/2014 08:48

Where does it rank at the moment in UK boy names I wonder? I didn't realise it was getting so popular

I forgot another one on our shortlist;

Aaron

I love Kit. And Jem. Unfortunately DH won't accept either of them.

Rosienose · 22/08/2014 09:02

I love Jem too, we must have similar taste :)

I found this very handy tool;

I love Kit, it's absolutely top of the list if we ever have a boy!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 22/08/2014 09:33

Oh wow. That is a good site. Baby boy is arriving TODAY so I might spend the journey to hospital perusing it Grin

Sootgremlin · 22/08/2014 09:43

I like Kit. We'd have had it as a nickname for Christopher, but couldn't use due to a family connection.

I felt it was quite 'small' as a standalone name, but that's only because my other dc have quite long traditional names it didn't seem to fit with them.

I do think it works on all ages.

Castlemilk · 22/08/2014 09:43

Yes, brilliant choice. I think I would have it short for Kester, as if Christopher he might decide himself that he'd rather be Chris - which I'm not too keen on.

florascotia · 22/08/2014 11:58

Kit, Kester, Christopher are all fine names.

Kit and Kester are both short forms of Christopher.

Many, many other versions of Christopher here, too:

Love love love, it's our choice for a boy. We decided on it very early on in pregnancy and I've been dying to tell everyone because I think it such a great name hahaha

I also think it sounds great with lots of MN choices!!

If it us a boy, we will go for just Kit, don't intend to call him anything else Grin

Floop · 22/08/2014 14:20

It's DH's name. His real name is Christopher, but no one knows you mean him if you use Chris. He's always been Kit.

I love the name. Although it feels like a 55 year olds name to me, but blame DH for that one!

Sophronia · 22/08/2014 15:00

I like Kit short for Christopher and Joe short for Joseph. Not keen on Mitch or Enzo.

treaclesoda · 22/08/2014 15:01

I love it. I wish I'd thought of it when I had my son. Smile

MackerelOfFact · 22/08/2014 15:07

I don't really like it, but I'm not keen on nouns as names (including inadvertent ones), especially when the noun in question doesn't even have a nice meaning.

I also know an adult Enzo and I can't take him seriously, it sounds like a Sesame Street character.

Holidayfun · 22/08/2014 15:09

Love it!

Sootgremlin · 22/08/2014 15:23

Not done this chap any harm.

Cherryblossom200 · 22/08/2014 16:15

It reminds me of Knight rider! Isn't that the name of the car? x

Montsti · 23/08/2014 19:55

I'm not keen. It's so "in" at the moment. I know of about 8 friends/acquaintances boys born in the last few years (West London).

I have to say I find it quite pretentious too...

DitzyDonkey · 23/08/2014 21:22

Adore Kit, its by far the best out of your list!

rachel234 · 23/08/2014 22:25

First thought is sports kit or drum kit. Never met a boy/man named kit. I'd probably give him a longer full name.

Only1scoop · 23/08/2014 22:26

Nightrider Smile
