Tulip

What do you think of Tulip as a first name. I think I would pair it with a more conventional middle name Tulip Elizabeth, Tulip Alexandra, Tulip Victoria. Other suggestions would be appreciated.

I named my cat Tulip. I don't see it as a 'persons' name myself. But if you like it go for it!

birdofthenorth · 21/08/2014 22:03

I quite like it. Tulip Muzumda is a BBC reporter. But then again I liked Orchid when expecting a girl and am retrospectively glad DH vetoed!

Smartiepants79 · 21/08/2014 22:05

Not my favourite. There are a lot more much lovelier flower names in my opinion.
Sounds like something from the Darling Buds of May.

AuntieStella · 21/08/2014 22:06

I thought of Tulip Mazumdar too.

Putting the name with a trad British one seems a good way to acknowledge dual heritage.

PurpleWithaMysteryBun · 21/08/2014 22:09

I like it actually!

Sophronia · 21/08/2014 22:15

I like it. I don't think I'd be brave enough to use it as a fn though! I'd prefer it as a middle name.

burgatroyd · 21/08/2014 22:16

Which flower talks the most?

Two lips.

How about Hyacinth! That's a great name if you think about it. Or Wisteria or Azalea?

Marcipex · 21/08/2014 22:33

I quite like it, I went to school with a Petula who was called Tulip. She was definitely a queen bee type with very pretty hair.

thoughtsescapeme · 21/08/2014 23:33

I know a Tulip and her name strikes me as ludicrous every time I hear it.

LadyWithLapdog · 21/08/2014 23:36

To lip or not to lip. I love the flowers but not keen on this as a name.

Ham69 · 21/08/2014 23:38

Not at all keen, I'm afraid. Primrose?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/08/2014 23:38

Terrible.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 21/08/2014 23:44

I always thought Hyacinth was a boy's name?

snice · 21/08/2014 23:46

it ought to be fine as flower names are very common but somehow it strikes me as a bit odd. If you particularly want an unusual flower name I think there are more attractive ones-say Marigold or Fleur

TheFillyjonk · 21/08/2014 23:46

I don't like it, because I read a book called The Tulip Touch when I was a preteen and it scared the shit out of me.

But what matters is whether you like it. There are loads and loads of flower (and other botanical) names out there if you decide against Tulip.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 21/08/2014 23:48

What about Daffodil? Grin

burgatroyd · 22/08/2014 05:17

Tinkly its one of those names that started off as a boy and then became more used by girls.

How about Blossom?

Legionofboom · 22/08/2014 08:16

Not for me.

DertieBertie · 22/08/2014 10:32

Tulip is a real guilty pleasure of mine! I've heard it's more common in Wales (still very unusual) but with the spelling Tiwlip.

Mouldypineapple · 22/08/2014 10:36

Hmm. Not sure. Love the flowers but..
I liked Amaryllis when pregnant with dd but went with a more traditional name.
Middle name? Incidentally I know someone who has a dd with a middle name of Strawberry. Not heard that one before.

Sundaedelight · 22/08/2014 12:10

I like it and it's a brave choice but then we have very unusual names as a family. If you like it, use it. Or you can always have it as a middle name if wavering.

Cherryblossom200 · 22/08/2014 12:59

I think I have baby brain because when I saw your post I initially thought it said Turnip Confused

But no I don't like the name Tulip unfortunatley sorry...I always worry with very unusual names that that the child would get bullied at school. Unless of course you went to an ultra posh school where there are other kids with unusual names like lemon etc

ShadyLadyT · 22/08/2014 16:48

Never thought of that before. Very nice I reckon. But I have a Dahlia.

Not my favourite girls name. Must be a thing I have against names ending in P
