I think Conrad is pretty cool.

I like Archer and Roman but they do sound a bit themed with Alexander.

Hunter is also not bad. I like the short version of Nate but the long one of James.

Spanielpuppy · 21/08/2014 23:52

Love Grayson it's our ds middle name. Often wonder if it should have been his first name

Spanielpuppy · 22/08/2014 00:03

Whiteblossom Grayson as is ds middle name when I was pregnant and the name was mentioned friends/family weren't keen.

Now ds is here having been put off the name and used as a middle name instead. We get nothing but compliments on his name.

Theo Grayson

My thinking is , if friends/family/colleagues etc didn't like the name they wouldn't compliment us.

My advice is choose a name that you and your dh/dp love and go for it. By all means ask advice but go with your heart.

According to most name books Grayson is actually an old english name meaning either steward or quite simply son of gray haired man.

Happy deciding

Sundaedelight · 22/08/2014 12:12

Not really names that I would choose and not sure they really fit with Alex apart from Conrad and Jamie. The others are a little American and could sound dated in time.

whiteblossom · 23/08/2014 11:40

what about Teddy. Teddy Ellis? Ellis is a family name. Not sure I can picture this through all ages though...

Its so hard!

My friend has just had a baby called Grayson. He is unbelievably cute! I love this name. It's different and original without being too wacky.

Tipsykisses · 23/08/2014 11:49

I like Riley , Nate , Grayson & Ethan

bubalou · 23/08/2014 13:00

I like Riley and nathanial / Nate.

Most of them are nice Wink

TheGirlAtTheRockShow · 23/08/2014 13:15

Connor was on our boys name list, so love that one! (we had a girl)
I like Riley and Nathaniel. Not a fan of the others.
Go with what you love

NadiaWadia · 24/08/2014 06:48
  1. Nathaniel/Nate is great and the best of the bunch.
  2. Connor/Conor (not Conner!) is nice
  3. Jamie is lovely, but of course there are loads and loads of them around.

Don't really like the others much (maybe Conrad is OK).

Hunter and Archer are jobs or hobbies, not names for a little boy. And Ace is just silly, sorry.

HalleLouja · 24/08/2014 06:54

I wouldn't go for Teddy. I would go for Theodore and have a mm of Teddy.

Like Nathaniel.

How about these names? I think they go with Alexander.

Thomas
Adam
James
Christopher - I know two sets of siblings called Alex and Chris.

HalleLouja · 24/08/2014 06:54

Nm not mm.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 24/08/2014 07:00

My thoughts :)

I like Greyson, Nathanial (but Nate) & Hunter.

Riley, Connor & Albie are 'ok'

Not keen on the others.

Absolutely, definitely, NOT Ace.

MsCoconut · 24/08/2014 08:57

Please don't name your son Ashley and think it will go down well in the US.

Coming from a Canadian in the UK, Americans tend to use -an, -er and -son endings for a boy but will only rarely end boys names in -ie. or -ey (considered feminine!). Biblical names are also common. Ethan, Nathaniel, Hunter, Elijah, Connor and Grayson are top 100 now in the US and would be my picks from your list. To my ear, they all go with Alex. I could also see Roman, Archer, and Ace fitting in in the US but are a bit more out there. (Archer nn Archie though is cute!)

On the other hand, Jamie, Ashley, Riley and Albie would be considered girls names in the US (Riley and Ashley are top 100 US girls names in 2013). They maybe ok in the UK though they don't seem to be mn favourites.

Conrad makes me think of Conrad Black, which would put me off a bit.

aubreye · 24/08/2014 22:44

My top five would be;

Nathaniel
Riley
Ethan
Conrad
Jamie (only if it was short for James)

whiteblossom · 29/08/2014 09:59

ok refined list...with a few new ones.

Grayson
Conrad
Nathanial 'nate'
Archer
Roman
Ethan
Theodore 'teddy/ted'
Nickolai
Jenson
Elijah
Sasha

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 30/08/2014 00:22

Good:

Grayson
Nathanial 'Nate'

(What happened to Hunter??)

Dislike:

Conrad
Ethan
Jenson
Theodore 'teddy/ted'

Really?

Archer
Roman
Nickolai
Elijah
Sasha

You did ask Grin

babyblabber · 30/08/2014 07:48

Jamie, Ethan & Elijah are lovely, I know a gorgeous 3 year old Elijah.

Conor is a fantastic name but please spell it that way, all other versions are surnames.

Orangeisthenewbanana · 30/08/2014 09:08

My favourites off your list would be Ethan, Jamie (but probably James as given name) and Nathaniel. Think they go best with Alex.

WhereHas1999DissappearedToo · 30/08/2014 09:47

My favourite is Nathaniel, the nickname Nate is awesome. Grayson and Ethan are nice names too. Conrad is ok, I'm not keen on the rest, sorry.

aubreye · 30/08/2014 09:58

Sasha is my sister's name so can't imagine it on a boy.

I like;
Nathaniel (Nathan or Nate)
Theodore (with Teddy as nickname but I personally prefer Theo)
Elijah
Conrad
Ethan

Dislike;
Grayson
Jenson

Really dislike;
Archer
Roman
Nickolai
Sasha

Bowlersarm · 30/08/2014 10:01

Oh I was going to say Jamie - I love it - but you've taken it off!

I like Teddy. And Nathaniel/Nate.

Don't use Sasha-it's a nickname for Alexander.

Hate Grayson.

whiteblossom · 02/09/2014 07:43

Ok baby born early and we need a name!! New short list

Grayson
Ethan
Jamie

Help :-) plse suggest alternatives

OP posts:
Bowlersarm · 02/09/2014 07:46

Jamie.

Please not Grayson.

Rory
Archie
Cameron

Lucked · 02/09/2014 08:57

Jamie is lovely and goes well with Alex but I would put James on his BC, although I know both lawyers and doctors who go by Jamie. I really like Connor too.

Nathaniel and Ethan are nice too.

The rest I don't like but go for what you both want.
