Edith - will it do an Isla?

Just been looking at the stats from 2013. I notice Edith has been shooting up over the past couple of years. Is Downton Abbey to blame? Will it do an Isla? I'm not intending to use it but interesting trajectory if you look at it on darkgreener.

Hmm

I don't think so

Edie is much prettier than Edith

birdofthenorth · 16/08/2014 22:47

I don't think so. I think it might become top 50 but not top 10. It's still a brave (& beautiful IMHO) choice.

CremeEggThief · 16/08/2014 23:23

I don't think so, as it ends in a 'th' sound, which isn't as frilly as 'a' or girly as 'y' or 'ie', if that makes sense.

No

Squirm · 17/08/2014 10:20

Nah.

Squirm · 17/08/2014 10:22

-a -ie -y -bel/belle names will dominate the top 50.

Edie could do an Evie though.

I don't think so unless we leave the trend for super-feminine, vowel-sound ending names behind.

Watching...

I have an Edith - she's eight so it was very unusual when she was born and we meet very few others. But there's so many Grace's, Sophie's, etc around, it doesn't sound that out of step I think.

She's sometimes Edie, sometimes Edith, I like both.

I'm a bit sad it's now associated with DA though, I didn't want a 'fashionable' name!

burgatroyd · 17/08/2014 11:14

Can't see it happening!

Edie does sound very much like Evie tho

aoife24 · 17/08/2014 14:47

I think not. As others have said, it's not cute and girly enough. A very name though.

ACM88 · 17/08/2014 21:57

I don't think It will be ever that popular, thank goodness. I look after a wonderful Edith, if I didn't, it would have been in our list!

royalminitrux · 17/08/2014 22:09

I doubt it. I have a Meredith and would be peeved if Edith crept up the popularity stakes in case it made Meredith more popular.
