Elodie and using first child's middle name as 2nd's first name!

We're a long way off (early 2015) but I've loved the name Elodie for moons and would love to use it - it's German I think and used a lot in France too. Even though it's pretty common on the continent, someone told me it sounded 'made up' (!) and too much like 'melody'. I'm not overly bothered by what other people think but I'd hate to give my child a name which makes people go "eh??"!
Also, if it's a boy, I love Edward but my son's middle name is already Edward - would it be too odd to reuse it?

Elodie is lovely, but I wouldn't reuse a name for your second child.

MotherOfInsomniacToddlers · 11/08/2014 15:11

Elodie is lovely!
If you love Edward use it. How often do people actually use their middle name anyway!!

ShoeWhore · 11/08/2014 15:16

Elodie is pretty.

I think it would be really odd to reuse a middle name, sorry.

SanityClause · 11/08/2014 15:28

Elodie is lovely, and becoming increasingly popular.

I wouldn't re-use a name unless it was a family name. C'mon, there's loads of lovely names; they shouldn't have to share!

Elodie is lovely.

So what if people go eh or if its made up ( says someone who made up Dd2 name)!

HollyBen · 11/08/2014 17:39

Elodie is lovely. I have met a toddler Elodie recently and didn't think for a minute it was made up.

I wouldn't reuse a middle name personally.

I am regretting encouraging dd to use a couple of names for dolls as I would like them for dc2. Luckily we weren't short of girls names first time round. Boys names on the other hand....

florascotia · 11/08/2014 17:44

Elodie is not made up; it's the modern French version of a very old name:

Use Edward. I would've used one of DS's middle names (he's got 2) as no.3's 1st name if it had been a boy but I'm having a girl. Personally I would use my favourite name and not compromise..

Elodie is lovely and certainly not made up!

DessieLou · 13/08/2014 21:02

Elodie is on my list. I think most people have heard of it.

I wouldn't reuse a name personally. It would seem odd to me. What about another Ed name- Edmund? Edwin?

BeyoncesCat · 13/08/2014 21:04

I've got my sisters middle name. Never been an issue.

BlackberryandNettle · 13/08/2014 21:29

Really like thr name Elodie. This is a negative thing to think I know but as an oldest child I'd have been really hacked off if a sibling was given 'my' middle name!

Oriunda · 14/08/2014 09:01

I like Elodie very much. I wouldn't use Edward again though - find another name. Edward is a family mn name for us - my father, brother and son all have it. If I'd had a second son he wouldn't though as we'd have chosen something different.

RiverTam · 14/08/2014 09:03

Elodie is a proper name and very nice too. Don't re-use Edward though.

Lucked · 14/08/2014 09:04

Elodie is a good name.

Unless you are naming after someone (such as your father) I think it is odd to reuse the name.

burgatroyd · 14/08/2014 09:11

I know Elodie isn't made up! I mean it doesn't really matter if it is its so pretty!

SoLongAsItsHealthy · 16/08/2014 15:03

I would reuse it. You can tell your boys that they were your two favourite names. You could give DS2 DS1's first name as his middle name, to even things out Grin
