What's wrong with this name? I think it's pretty and unusual without being too wacky but, looking at the stats, it's virtually unheard of, what am I missing?

Also how would you pronounce it?

WowserBowser · 10/08/2014 18:49

It looks like a misspelling of Isla

BananaHammocks · 10/08/2014 18:53

Ah, good point!

Isolde/Isolda is nicer imo

BananaHammocks · 10/08/2014 18:57

But they sound like 'is old' or 'is older'

I've been skiing to Isola twice, so it's a no from me! Pronounced eeesolah.

It's the Italian for island. Not sure Island is a name, more a noun in my opinion.

BananaHammocks · 10/08/2014 19:02

Lol @ Ebola!!!

French ski station.

Isola - A Nigerian name, usually a surname. Have colleague with this name and it is pronounced 'E-sho-la'

Oriunda · 10/08/2014 22:11

Yep, I think of 'island' too. Sometimes 'names' don't appear in the lists because they're not actually names.

FabulousFudge · 10/08/2014 22:39

Isolde is better.

Johnogroats · 10/08/2014 22:53

It's a ski resort ... Isola 2000 !

ralinax294 · 10/08/2014 23:43

I really like it!

Well, it not being a name would be a bit of a clue. And how on earth can you think itMs "pretty" when you're asking how to pronounce it?

LoveIsAnOpenDoor · 11/08/2014 00:02

I wouldn't know how to pronounce it, is it eye-so-la or is-so-la (or neither)?

Hakluyt · 11/08/2014 00:16

Ee-sol-ah. It's the Italian for island. So, as I said, not actually a name at all.

I like Peninsula for a girl. And Moraine for a boy................

Alisvolatpropiis · 11/08/2014 01:59

I know someone who has a daughter with this name.

Isola Jones is a famous (and gorgeous!) opera singer. Love that name and am trying to convince DH to not veto it!

burgatroyd · 11/08/2014 05:10

Its pretty ish

Monkeyandanimal · 11/08/2014 07:13

It's not unheard of for nouns to be used as names. And lots of names don't translate well into other languages. Or translate into something else! Can't think of any examples but i'm sure there are lots!

I don't love this name; it makes me think the baby would be all alone.....isolated..... Sad

ZenGardener · 11/08/2014 07:20

Yes, I think isolated, alone.

CormoranStrike · 11/08/2014 07:52

My instant thought was Ebola Grin

Cupoftchaiagain · 11/08/2014 07:56

I like it

Vijac · 11/08/2014 09:49

I love it. However, whilst it may not be popular as a stand alone name, Isabel and Isla and very popular, so there will be lots of izzy's etc.
