I am only TTC but we have talked about names already.

What do you think of the name Ellis for a boy?

I love it, it's on my shortlist

CarcerDun · 10/08/2014 11:00

I love it!

Lucky29 · 10/08/2014 11:22

Love it! :)

I've always thought of it as a girl's name - my friend's 14 year old is called Ellis.

TheWhispersOfTheGods · 10/08/2014 11:56

I like it, its on our list too.

Montsti · 10/08/2014 13:29

I don't mind it but think it is a bit feminine. Sounds more like a girls name to me.

nyldn · 10/08/2014 13:31

love it!

Alisvolatpropiis · 10/08/2014 13:33

I like it. Prefer it spelled Elis though, it's the traditional spelling.

Montsi very much traditionally a boys name, in Wales at least.

RainbowB7 · 10/08/2014 15:46

Lovely name and to me definitely male although I did once know a girl called Ellis, too.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 10/08/2014 16:00

DD2 and me were jokingly discussing what the future (long time away, I hope, she's 13) GCs might be called.

Ellis was one we both thought was nice. There was an Ellis at primary.

DramaAlpaca · 10/08/2014 16:02

I like it. Only for a boy though, not for a girl.

Leeds2 · 10/08/2014 17:14

Going against the grain here, it wouldn't be my choice. But, to me, it is a surname.

BlueStarsAtNight · 10/08/2014 19:13

I really like it (for a boy, not a girl)

badtime · 10/08/2014 22:51

Leeds, Ellis was a given name before it was a surname. The male name is a variant of 'Elias' and the female name a variant of 'Alice', both from the Middle Ages before standardised spelling.

Cathycat · 10/08/2014 23:16

Ellis was the name that Emily Bronte used as her pen name for Wuthering Heights. I love it. I would have used it myself for one of my boys but knew I would become cheesed off with people thinking that it was a female name. However, I do still like it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 11/08/2014 00:26

She did that to pass herself off a man didn't she Cathy. I would say times have changed so much since then and women aren't encouraged to pretend they're male to sell books but JK Rowling was at least advised to be "ambiguous" as apparently female authors don't tend to do well in the fantasy genre.
