Siblings with same first initial?

Avoid as naff and complicated with post etc? Or not a problem?

I really like a name for DS2 but it begins with the same letter as DS1s name. This isn't intentional in any way and that it the only thing that is putting me off about it. I Do have other names that I like with different initials so maybe I should settle on one of those instead?

By 'I' I of course mean 'we'. I'll let DH have a bit of input

I have a son and a daughter with names beginning with B. It's not an issue.

Thanks Opies. I'd imagine it would be less of an issue with a boy and a girl as post will be addressed to Miss or Master.

My two have names both beginning with E (1 girl, 1 boy). My mum had 5 children and 3 of them (including me) had names beginning with S (1girl, 2 boys). Didn't cause issues at all

Their names are both gender neutral, which is going to be fun

My DDs both have the same first initial as me. It wasn't intentional they're the names both of us agreed on.

I'm not bothered what others think tbh we love the names as do our DDs and that's what's important.

That said, we couldn't use my favourite name for dd2 as it was very similar sounding the dd1's name (think Laura / Lauren). That would have sounded odd and been confusing.

I have two boys with the same intial they are now 14 and 13 (nearly) and no problems at all so far. I really think the mail thing is a bit of a red herring. We all receive very little mail and that which does come tends to be be Birthday cards (they don't share a birthday) or occaisional things from the bank and that has their full name or full initials (they have different middle initials).

Curiously DS1 has a 5 letter name and DS2 has a 4 letter name - all his 4 letters appear in DS1s name - maybe we have a lack of imagination. Their names sound out very differently though :o

As another point, my OH and I also share a first intital - that hasn't caused any problems either.

I think it's cute. Others will disagree...certainly not a big deal surely?

I have a step son Joe (13), a ds Jake (3) and am 35 weeks with another boy who will be Joshua. Not intentional. Just like the names. Don't see it as a problem

can't for the life of me think why this would be an issue. I have the same first initial as my mum and once a year maybe she's open a letter meant for me but that was about the height of it. anyway, there is way less post these days than when I lived at home with the internet.

in my cousins family 3 out of 4 of the kids have the same first initial and I've never heard it even mentioned.

you'd have to be looking for problems to consider this one I think!

Mine and older sisters names start with the same letter, wasn't a problem till we grew up and started getting post.

I know three kids who are called Teddy (Theodore), Tamara and Taylor.

Two of my nieces are called Laura and Lily. Completely unintentional.

My sister and I have the same first initial, and the exact same middle name. My dad has the same first initial to us too. We were always opening each other's post, and the tax office made numerous errors with out tax codes confusing me and my sister (the same middle name just compounded the same first initial issue). We also have the same number of letters in our first names, and both end with -a
OH and his brother have the same first initial too - this was complicated when getting a credit rating check when the both still lived with parents as his brother's issues appeared under OH's search.
Currently choosing a name for DS2 and we have vetoed any similar initials with DS1, me or OH.

katherine can I ask why the same middle name? It's a family name I assume?

Mine and dh initials are both cs, when we were choosing names anything beginning with a c was an automatic no lest anyone think we're following the example of the kardashians.

I have 3DC (1ds, 2dd) with the same Initial and 2 of them have the same first and mn initial (b/g twins). It's fine for us :)

DSIS and me share first initials, it had never really registered before it came up here.

I used to work in the 'Poll Tax' office where everyone living in the same house received a bill. I remember talking to a whole familiy with Mum, Dad and 4 adult kids who all had the same bloody initial and surname. So six identical brown envelopes addressed to Mr A Smith, Mrs A Smith, Miss A Smith, Mr A Smith ...... well you get the picture- no middle names given -and all for different amounts as some worked some didn't etc. Of course It was my fault they had no idea which bill they each had to pay! At least the mum knew who hers was but maybe the rest could have used a bit of common sense

mrsleo my middle name (very popular 1 syllable flower name) was all they could agree on for my younger sister too (as they wanted another flower but couldn't choose one). But mum found out afterwards though that it is a family name :)

I know of a mother and daughter with the same name. When the daughter hit her teens she found out she could go in to the bank and cash cheques from her mother's account.

I don't think it is just post that can be mixed up, it is things like bank cards, credit cards etc where only an initial is used.

I think you need to think about when they are 19/20 and going to uni or working.

That's what middle names are for. My bank cards have my first and middle initial or spell my full name. Which I think most cards too anyway.
