Surely it's very soon?

Dds names have fallen but still top 50. Imminent ds' name is still top 20 (just!) but also falling. 30-50 is my ideal I think so quite happy!

Papyrus02 · 15/08/2014 13:45

Of course I don't know any boys with the name Amelia Grin

Should have said girls with the name Amelia....

DD2 was trying to clean my foot with a wipe. It was quite off putting. Her name is still outside the 100, but is now very close to breaking through. I think many expected it to be a high riser; like Elsie, Florence and Ivy. Seems to steady growth.

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/08/2014 13:56

The inly Amelia I have ever met is mid 20's!

Pleased to see my favoured names are not in the top 100

AliceInGallifrey · 15/08/2014 13:57

My name doesn't even show on the darkgreener site. It is a pretty average name but massively unusual spelling - if I posted it I would out myself.

Both my children don't have unusual names slightly different spellings to the popular variant but both are around position 5000 on the names lists. Dds preferred name is less common tho (suits her more then her full name now she has her own character )

maxmissie · 15/08/2014 14:01

I know of three Amelias and two Olivers! All five years old and above though. Lots of the other more popular names at my childrens' primary school as well.

Both DD's and DS's names outside top 100 across England and Wales but both in top 100 for Wales. And looking at the 'darkgreener' website they have both become less popular since 1996. Have come across one child with my daughter's name and one child (but a girl) with my son's name.

Oxtailchambermaid · 15/08/2014 14:03

wingcommandergallic - I only have last years saved but to be precise for Seren:

2012: 550 Seren's born, #104
2013: 494 Seren's born, #109

Nice name by the way!

Anyone else?!

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/08/2014 14:11

My favourite girls name has seen an absolutely huge leap though.

I need to have a baby (girl) and a use it pronto.

Shocked at Jasper's rise!

RedToothBrush · 15/08/2014 14:12

3 Messiahs were born last year...

derektheladyhamster · 15/08/2014 14:15

I nearly had an Amelia back in 2003. DS was on track to be a trend setter. As it is, his name has been around the 50 mark since he was born.

Thurlow · 15/08/2014 14:22

Few - only one more of DD's full name this year than last year.

Don't know why that bothers me as the shortened version of her name is pretty common. In fact, it's the 65th most common boys name Blush But I like that at least her full name is still quite rare! Though one of the abbreviations for her name is at 42. Surprised by that as I think it's a horrible abbreviation, let alone as a name of its own.

So not surprised at the rise of George. Loads of them round our way. It's not a surprising list reall from all the young children I know.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 15/08/2014 14:35

Ds' preschool has an Amelia and quite a few Olivers. Also lots of Sophias.

I knew an Amelia at school 20 years ago.

I'm amazed that my name is climbing in popularity. It's nowhere near the top 100 mind you. It would be odd to meet another me, at least one that was under the age of 80 anyway.

Terrierterror · 15/08/2014 14:38

For those wondering about Elsa, Frozen was released in UK cinemas just before Christmas 2013. These stats only cover to the end of 2013.

charlyn · 15/08/2014 14:44

Its funny I don't know any child Amelias.

I'm really shocked that my dds name hasn't risen, was expecting a huge jump as it seems to be on everyones list! I bet it will shoot up in 2014.

ToffeeMoon · 15/08/2014 14:52

The top 10 is slightly misleading actually. If you combine the Sophias and Sofias, that name shoots up to top 5. Same with the Lilys and Lillys and the Evie and Evelyns.

5madthings · 15/08/2014 14:54

Quite pleased dd's name has not gone up, keep seeing it mentioned on mnet but only 45 babies were given her name last year.

ToffeeMoon · 15/08/2014 14:54

I also think Eliza is higher than theist suggests because a lot of parents will have put Elizabeth as the birth certificate name but she will be known as Eliza.

Wincher · 15/08/2014 14:59

It's fascinating to look at the lists by month. George was in the top 10 every month until July, which Prince George was born - then it fell out of the top 10 for the rest of the year. So the royal baby had a negative effect on the name, not a positive one.

FoodieMum3 · 15/08/2014 14:59

I'm expecting a ds in a few weeks and surprised that his name isn't in the top 100.

Both my dd's are in the top 20.

I know of loads of Amelia's under 5! I'm surprised that George isn't higher than 10.

ToffeeMoon · 15/08/2014 15:07

That's interesting about George. But I think once the novelty of Prince George wore off people did start using it again. The three I know were all 2014.

AWombWithoutARoof · 15/08/2014 15:12

Anyone clever enough to tell me how to search by name on the long list, rather than just scrolling through?

squoosh · 15/08/2014 15:16

If you hold down the Ctrl button on your keyboard and then hit the F key it will bring up a search box. Enter the name and hit return.

FelixFelix · 15/08/2014 15:59

Sylvie (dd's name) is 432nd Grin

My own name is 802nd Shock

splendide · 15/08/2014 16:07

My current favourite (Albert) is at 99 now, up 10. I think it's going to keep rising quite rapidly but I don't think I mind really.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 15/08/2014 16:18

Ooh there were 13 of DDs name (inc her) the year she was born (2011), and only eight last year. Good to see!

AWombWithoutARoof · 15/08/2014 16:25

Felix, please say you're called Xanthe or Marina! Those and Sylvie are three of my favourite names.
