Flora or Jemima

I "think" we have a final 2 names for our baby due in 5 weeks. Which do you like best and why? Honest opinions wanted as DH thinks Flora is associated far to strongly with a margarine to use?

Thank you

Definitely Jemima. I'm not keen on the name Flora at all - I would think margarine too but that isn't the reason I don't like it..

Flora by a country mile. I always say that Jemima sounds like a CBBC character to me.

Bowlersarm · 31/07/2014 16:49

Flora. I love it.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 31/07/2014 16:52

Flora. I still remember playing with a girl on the beach called flora. We were both about 8 at the time. I'm 38 now!! She was very pretty. Weird the things you remember.

Flora she'spreads easily' used to be a playground diss. For that reason would go Jemima which sounds a bit stuck up.

DitzyDonkey · 31/07/2014 19:52

Jemima without a doubt, this little one is going to be Jemima if it turns out to be a girl!

Funnily, when I first found out I was pregnant we were nearly going to go with Flora . I still love it but felt that the margarine connection ruined it a little for us!

Jemima. I love it, although I've read on here about some negative connotations to do with American white supremacists.

ChickenMe · 31/07/2014 20:00

Love Jemima. So cute and I like it cos of the duck.

PoppyAmex · 31/07/2014 21:40

Flora is a lovely name.

Ludways · 31/07/2014 21:41

Flora, love it. Jemima, not keen.

Sophronia · 31/07/2014 23:27

Jemima.

Clarabum · 31/07/2014 23:35

i love Flora too. DH didn't want to use it because of the marge connotation and our surname begins with an F. I love it. DO IT!

Gugglebum · 01/08/2014 07:41

Flora is my favourite of the two. I was a highland dancer as a child and that was my favourite dance. To me it sounds romantic and lovely, but it's still a solid strong name. If the margarine link bothers you too much, Jemima is a great name too. I do feel that people quickly associate a name with a person before a product once they meet someone with the name. Maybe the margarine won't even be around by the time your little one is a teenager, who knows?

No help at all as I think both are lovely.
