I love the name! Will it automatically be shortened to Fran or Frankie though? Or does anyone have any other ideas for nicknames? TIA!

My cousin's DD has that name and is called Franca.

sparklingharbour · 29/07/2014 10:36

Love Franca

sparklingharbour · 29/07/2014 10:37

But lots of people will call her Fran.

flipflopsonfifthavenue · 29/07/2014 15:24

in Italy Francescas are often Chicca (pronounced like the children's brand Chicco, so hard 'c's) but we're not in Italy so don't know how useful this is to you...

If DC2 is a girl she's going to be Francesca/Frankie, although I like Fran a lot too.

ThatBloodyWoman · 29/07/2014 15:26

Frankie is ace.

Essy?

choochootrain1 · 29/07/2014 18:32

Chessa? Or give her a middle name that you actually use as her name to be known by that you like until she's old enough that Francesca won't be shortened to a way you don't like

NormHonal · 29/07/2014 18:38

Will still end up as Fran for many, sorry.

CommanderShepard · 29/07/2014 18:41

I knew a Chessie at uni - lovely name on an even lovelier person.

morethanpotatoprints · 29/07/2014 18:42

There is a Frankie is my family.

Montsti · 29/07/2014 18:51

My Italian friend is Francesca nn.Francy (pronounced like Frenchie but Franchie). I also know Fran's and Frankie's.

turdfairynomore · 29/07/2014 21:08

My Francesca is ches or chessie at home but Frankie or franks on the sports field. She is nearly 20 and loves her name in all its variations!!

birdofthenorth · 29/07/2014 21:55

My Italian friend Francesca is always Franca.

I like Frankie and Cheska. Chessie is a nickname for the (slightly rough and I can say that because I'm from there!) town of Chesterfield, to me (and many other northerners).

ruby1234 · 30/07/2014 15:57

My German friend Francesca is known as Franzie.

AnimalsAreMyFriends · 30/07/2014 16:00

My dd's friend is Francesca - but is always called Xesqui (pronounced Chesskie) She grew up in Spain, it's a lovely name.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 31/07/2014 08:42

Most Italian ones are either Francy (Franchy) or Chicca (Kika) (I know a family who go by Chicca, Checco and Cece (chay chay) Took me years to work out what they were really called.

Very old ladies are Franca.

I think in the UK you are more likely to get Fran or Chesca.

MrsBungle · 31/07/2014 08:44

I know 5 Francesca's or Francis'. All of them are called fran.

Emmylou717 · 31/07/2014 08:51

All of the ones I know (students at school and friends from uni) are shortened to Fran. The one exception is an Italian lady who is always called Francesca.
