Just kidding ;-P but now That I have your attention...
I had planned on naming our dd2 Rowan (big sis is Ivy) but my twat of a cousin just named her dog Rowan after I mentioned i liked it.. Would you just use the name anyway or try to find a nicer one? Many thanks x

I would use the name anyway BUT be mightily pissed off and probably cut that cousin out of my life for being such a prat.

Bowlersarm · 28/07/2014 12:53

Use it anyway. How frequently do you see them?

MyNameIsSuz · 28/07/2014 13:29

Oh use it! I plan on using my favourite girls' name if the next one is a girl, despite my SILs dog having the same name. Her dog's nearly ten, it'll be dead in a few years! My aunt and uncle used to have a dog with a common shortening of my name, the dog was older than me, I don't think anyone thought it was weird. I didn't anyway.

Sophronia · 28/07/2014 14:20

I'd use it anyway.

Stretchmarksarethenewblack · 28/07/2014 15:07

I see her quite often, this isn't just a random cousin, we were each other's bridesmaids which is why I'm extra pissed off

Use it but just shows you're better off keeping it to yourself. Cousin is definitely a big twat !!

Bowlersarm · 28/07/2014 15:25

I hope you told her off, OP. And that she admits copying you, or your family will be Confused that you a) have named your dd after her dog or b) have no originality!

How about Rumor, Romilly, Rowena instead?

Batmam · 28/07/2014 15:25

Ahh now I'm disappointed! If not Fanny then defo still use Rowan...she's a twat for nicking it and the dog might run away in 6 months anyway nothing to do with you of course

Stretchmarksarethenewblack · 28/07/2014 15:40

Yeah I was very classy and called her a bellend. Unfortunately she is pretty unoriginal and has planned on calling her unborn dd Sophie which I should steal for our pet rat which we'll adopt when she's about 2 weeks to go to her due date. Not that I'm bitter. Nope not at all..

I would use Rowan no matter what if i liked this name the most. who cares about name of the dog;-)

houghtonk76 · 28/07/2014 18:01

Ok, three things: 1. Use it anyway, sod her! 2. Please, please don't call ur child Fanny!! (Without revealing too much, as I'm only 5 weeks gone, I have been victim of unusual name hell & it isn't pretty, I have cousin who by marriage geniunely became Annette Ball, she's a teacher), trust me you want to go normal name unless you are Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna, La Jolie. 3. Your username is nothing short of brilliant!

Hooliesmoolies · 29/07/2014 13:58

Dogs names can be changed. Tell her it is you or the dogs name. If she won't change it cut her out of your life. Who needs cousins anyway?

Montsti · 29/07/2014 14:21

Use Rowan! Screw your cousin!

picnicbasketcase · 29/07/2014 14:25

Either accept that you'll have to finds new name, or accept that your dd will share her name with a pet. She got there first. Yes, it is twatty in the extreme to steal a name you had chosen and told her about, but unfortunately she is inconsiderate and used it before you.

whitepuddingsupper · 29/07/2014 20:48

Go for Fanny and you can get her a personalised irn bru bottle Grin

Fanny/ Fannie???
Viviennemary · 29/07/2014 20:51

Use the name and don't bother speaking to your cousin again. What a mean trick.

Stretchmarksarethenewblack · 30/07/2014 06:43

Fanny it is!!!! Just joking, sticking with our original name now. She can piss off!

bouquetofpencils · 30/07/2014 12:05

Dogs have shorter life span. Use it and make it known that your cousin is a knob.

Mammanat222 · 30/07/2014 14:05

I did start a thread a while back asking if it was OK to name my child after my cat (it was a 50/50 split I'd say) but this case is slightly different so I would say go for it.

Pebbles0934 · 31/07/2014 04:37

If someone did that to me I would not speak to them again. Ever. What a strange thing to do? Jealousy maybe?

Anyway... It sounds stupid on a dog. Call your child it and tell her the story if she meets the cousin and dog.... What has your family said about this?

I know a lady who named her child Emma then 2 months later the cousin named their dog Emma. Some people are strange........
