A brother for Elodie?

Chocolateporridge · 28/07/2014 10:57

We chose Elodie because we thought it was really pretty and uncommon where we live, and because we loved it as soon as we heard it, not because it was French, and now we've found out our next dc is a boy we're a bit stumped! There's no name that totally jumps out at us as "the one" like Elodie's did and our long term favourite boys name was taken by a very close friend!

We quite like the idea of a Biblical name or another French name, but we have a double barrelled surname so don't want anything too pretentious.

Any suggestions?!

Leo, Louis, Jacob, Benjamin, Toby, Beau

also, tell me about Elodie. it's on our list for this bump, does it ever get shortened and if so to what? I love it but not keen on elle type nicknames.

daholster · 10/10/2014 14:36

Love Remy and Blaise Smile

NorksEnormous · 10/10/2014 14:37

Elodie and George go nicely I think

peppinagiro · 10/10/2014 20:01

My DD is Elodie! Never gets shortened to Elle/Ellie/Ella by anyone - her nursery friends nicknamed her Dee Dee so she gets that or just Dee.

My boys list was...
George
Edward (Teddy)
Frederick
Arthur
Oliver
Sebastian
Jacob
Elliott
Elijah
Laurence
Isaac
Benedict

But now I have crossed off Edward and other E names as I wouldn't want to look like I was following some twee E theme....

peppinagiro · 10/10/2014 20:03

Oh I also recently met someone with a DD called Elodie, and a DS Daniel...

I saw your thread title and I heard Ray in my head. Elodie (pronounced like melody) and Ray. God only knows why, Ray (Ramond) isn't a name I'd thought of before but Elodie and Ray are in my head now! Smile

PamDooveOrangeJoof · 10/10/2014 20:55

We have a Lucas and if we ever to have a girl would call her Elodie. Beautiful name and think they sound lovely together... Lucas & Elodie.

JeanChappa · 10/10/2014 22:15

Elodie is gorgeous! On my list for yet-to-be-conceived number two. How about...

Daniel
Flynn
Fraser
Isaac (Elodie and Isaac sounds great!)
Marcus
Lewis
William

Oh there's some really good ones here! I do like Daniel and dh likes Laurent, we both like Etienne a lot too!

babybump , you're probably going to cringe but we shorten dd's name to Ellie! Noone else does, not even her friends, but it just kind of happened Blush

Reuben is good, or how about Quentin?

devoncreamtea · 12/10/2014 08:52

Ruben (I like this spelling - Spanish spelling?) is lovely and I think could be Roo or Ben, both are fab - Roo cute for a tiny and Ben for later or for a more 'serious' boy.

I have such a problem with boys names - I find i can easily project myself into the future with girls names and imagine them at each stage of life etc, which I think makes it easier to choose - but boys don't seem as 'natural' to me at all!

My little boy (I took the full 6 weeks to name him and only had 2 names on my shortlist...!!!) is called Rafe - which I adore and might be a good match for Elodie?

Ruben is on my list this time too! Good luck

babyblabber · 12/10/2014 10:16

not cringe but I suspect we would end up doing the same (especially DH who insists on nicknaming our kids despite my protestations!). I LOVE the name Elodie, it's just gorgeous, but do think nicknames are inevitable so probably won't use it Sad

peppinagiro · 12/10/2014 14:19

Oh I thought of another one - I love William, but can't use it because it's already used with close family.

Also like Christopher NN Kit. Kit and Elodie sounds cute!
