Thoughts on the name Millie Bell? (As in Bell will be her surname). I adore the name Millie but not sure if it sounds strange with Bell. Any thoughts welcomed!!

I don't think it works.

People will think it's all her first name, like Mirabelle.

canweseethebunnies · 24/07/2014 19:02

You will have the same problem with pretty much any girls name ending in a vowel sound. I personally don't think it's the end of the world though! Quite cute.

Gingerjv · 24/07/2014 19:04

Millie is rather sweet name. but i agree it doesn't work with Bell

cece · 24/07/2014 19:23

sounds like mini (baby) bell I'm afraid.

Annie592 · 24/07/2014 23:13

Hadn't even thought of the miniature cheese connection :-(Thanks for the honesty, this is what I feared. Problem is I like so many names with an ''L" ; Isabel and Anabel are obviously out, but even Holly and Ellie and Lily just don't quite work; guess I will have to look at a whole new sound!

Annie, try being a Boardman. Not one member of my family has a name that sounds OK with the surname - and was always the butt of playground jokes.

I quite like the name Offelia for a girl however, and for a boy Damian.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 25/07/2014 13:12

How about Amelia or Emily shortened to Millie.
Amelia Bell sounds lovely.

Keepsake · 25/07/2014 14:17

Agree with Dino. Pick a longer name and shorten it to Millie.

I'm guessing Millicent is out? (I hate it too, but like Millie).

DramaAlpaca · 25/07/2014 14:20

If it helps, I know an Amelia Bell who is known as Millie. She's in her twenties now & I don't think her name has ever been a problem for her.

UriGeller · 25/07/2014 14:23

I think you need something quite formal and classic because any cutesy name with Bell at the end, its just going to sound too too ditsy.

Elizabeth
Margot
Alice all work well with Bell

Lily
Daisy
Katy don't.

ksrwr · 25/07/2014 14:45

i think with a single syllabul surname, the first name could be 3 syllabuls, it flows nicely...

but i had a girl in my class at school (one hundred years ago) called ali bell, and so millie bell doesn't sound weird to me at all!

ksrwr · 25/07/2014 14:45

syllable

BlueChampagne · 25/07/2014 15:00

Agreeing with Dinosaur and adding Camilla

burgatroyd · 25/07/2014 15:21

Melissa with Millie as nn? Melissa is lovely and I've never met one with the nn Mel.

hefner · 25/07/2014 15:48

You could use Romilly, I think that flows a bit better than Milly on it's own.

Oops, sorry for the double post.

I agree with all those above who say a longer name shortened to Millie works better (Camilla, Romilly, Emily, Amelia, etc). Similarity, Elizabeth, Eleanor, or Lillian could work as longer forms of Ellie or Lily.

Some shorter granny-chic names also sound good i.e. Iris, Alice or Edith.

laurennnnxoxo1019 · 25/07/2014 20:04

Yeah, people will probably think her name is Millie-bell

ShovettyMcShovetty · 25/07/2014 20:10

Layla Bell
Alice Bell
Helena Bell

Slavetominidictator · 25/07/2014 21:40

I taught a Milly Bell, shortened from Amelia, who was adorable, super bright and very pretty. It never occurred to me that her name was anything other than charming.
Go ahead!

bethellex · 26/07/2014 23:44

I think Millie Bell sounds nice but I can see your point!
I knew sisters who were Katie Bell and Jenny Bell and they sounds nice and quite a similar sound to Millie!?

Olivia Bell
Freya Bell

It might sound better to not have a name with A or EE on the end - but those are my favourite kind of names!

Imogen Bell?

It really is tricky with you're surname but I think it sounds very girly and cute!
I'm due in November and actually wanted the middle name Belle but everyone said 'Lilia Belle' sounded too much like a Disney Princess - (don't see what's wrong with that!? - everyone wants to be a disney princess!) haha.
But good luck!
