Stuck for a girls name, making me very upset now!!

A few weeks ago I posted a thread about the name Jean for a girl. It was met with lots of lovely positive remarks, which made me feel good about the name, but when I sit and think about it, I'm not at all convinced.

My OH suggested the name, he loves it, and it has huge significance. My beloved nans names, and baby is due on her birthday. I get really annoyed and defensive when people critise it, but I'm not sure if I'm honest. I've not mentioned name choice to any friends or family yet, and I'm sure it will be sneered at, at least to begin with.

Don't really want to go back to drawing board, because OH and I don't agree on many girls names. He likes Michelle (?), Judith, and Greta. I like Nancy, April, and Evelyn, but these are met with grunts and snorts. Feel like crying. I don't want to chose a name I don't love, and then regret it! Any advice? Genius name suggestions?

Brilliant ! Love it.

Wren is lovely.

DH picked 5 out of 6 of my children's names. DS1 picked the 6th. I picked none. Love all their names, only wish one was different but that is for other reasons. I think I am relieved I didn't have all this angst and wasn't really bothered what we picked yet their names all fit them perfectly.

I dont personally like Jean as a name but if it is a significance to you both that is nice.

I saw you like Greta, what about Grettel?

Love Wren, when I was pregnant I had Ren as a boys name. She turned out to be a girl so we gave her another marmite name in Sadie!

I have a friend whose middle name is Jean after her grandmother - not a grandmother she was especially close to - and I think she felt it was given out of a sense of obligation by her parents than genuine affection for the name. But if you love the name AND the person, it should be much more fitting.

DH insisted on his mothers name as DDs middle name - luckily a name I like - but I insisted on adding Jane as a second middle name because I didn't want to miss out on my favourite middle name choice just because he wanted his mothers name! It works, just about, because Jane is so short.

I actually like Jeannie is really sweet - and I also love Claudia Jean (CJ) because that's Alison Janney's character in the West Wing and she is awesome, a really cool character to be named after!

Can I just say looking at your examples of what you both like, they are not worlds away, don't give up! Hubby and I are real opposites when it comes to names, I like Genevieve and he likes Alisha. We would sneer at each other's names until one day I said 'this isn't supposed to be a bad experience.' We both promised to listen to each other and just say yes no or maybe.
