I am due next month and we want to narrow our list down to two or three. Which do you like best for boys and girls? Can you think of any others I might like along the same vein?

Violet
Iris
Martha
Eliza
Isabelle
Theadora
Ivy
Esme
Margot

Arthur
Rafferty
Wilfred
Barnaby
Inigo
Jago
Bear

I love Violet and kind of like Esme not too taken with the boys names I like raff or raffey but not rafferty and I like Will but not Wilfred
I like Jesse for a boy and Isla or Juliet.

Rhubarbgarden · 19/07/2014 20:16

I love Violet, Iris, Ivy and Margot. I would ditch Isabelle from your list - there are soooo many of them.

Boys - I like Arthur, Inigo and Jago. Loathe Rafferty.

Melons80 · 19/07/2014 21:23

Bear-no. Others are all nice.

Topsyloulou · 19/07/2014 22:40

Love violet for a girl and Wilfred for a boy. Wilfred is on our list but DP is currently refusing to consider it do would love someone else to use it!

indigoazul · 20/07/2014 07:57

Violet is my top choice but Dh not sure. It seems popular on here though. Boys is much harder....

Girls: favourites are Esme, Iris and Martha.
Boys: favourites are Jago and Barnaby.

I used to like Inigo, until someone pointed out that it only takes a tiny mispronunciation to make it 'in I go' and out I go, etc.

I think Bear is great for a nn. We have a little Bear, but his birth certificate name is Edward. When he gets older, he has the option of Edward, Ted or Bear.

Gingerjv · 20/07/2014 13:08

Margot and Arthur! i like only these names from the list( maybe Esme also...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/07/2014 14:50

Bear???????????????????????????????? Sorry but that is ridiculous.

Love: Violet / Martha / Isobe/ (this spelling) / Esme
Hate: Margot

Love: Wilfred / Barnaby
Like: Inigo / Arthur
Dislike: Jago / Rafferty

You might like:

Verity / Ishbel / Yvette
Jude / Bartholomew / Simon / Simeon / Bram

Love all your girl names except for Ivy, not keen on the boy names except Barnaby nn Barney. Bear is awful, sorry.

Delphiniumsblue · 20/07/2014 19:22

Martha or Eliza.
Don't go for Ivy ( poison Ivy, clinging Ivy)
Sorry but dislike all the boys. Bear is truly dreadful!

Delphiniumsblue · 20/07/2014 19:23

Barnaby is OK.

Sophronia · 20/07/2014 20:12

I have a DD Violet, other names I like are Pearl, Marin, Nancy, Beth, Meg, Molly, Georgina and Alicia x

indigoazul · 20/07/2014 21:56

Thanks for some good suggestions. I like Molly, Ishbel, Willa and Arlo, will see what Dh's response is! I have narrowed the original list so thanks for your feedback. Bear would definitely be a nn for Edward or Rupert, but even so maybe it's not the one. Certainly hasn't had good feedback on MN!! I still like it though, but it's not my top choice. 3 weeks to go.

Love both Edward and Rupert.

devoncreamtea · 21/07/2014 21:31

You could shorten Beren to Bear too.

I have a Bear (she's really a Bess) and it is the sweetest nickname!

I like your boys names - boys are harder I think! Can I suggest (here she goes again..) Rafe instead of Rafferty. Lovely norse name, means 'Wolf'.

I also like Wilfred (wilfie?) and quite taken with Inigo too - do you say 'In-ee-go; ?

What about Hugo?

devoncreamtea · 21/07/2014 21:34

adore Margot from your girls list

followed by Iris, Martha and Eliza

Good luck with your fab names!
