Quite old fashioned but nice

Coughle · 19/07/2014 01:49

Yes

Happy36 · 19/07/2014 01:50

Lovely - do consider abbreviations, though. Where we live it´s a popular name, shortened to Pati, (which I think sounds lovely too), but would you be happy with Pat, Trish or Trisha?

catsofa · 19/07/2014 01:58

I really don't know, my connection to it is too close so I can't be objective about it at all! I think I quite like Trish/Trisha. What other names does it go with? Thanks for input, I hadn't thought of Patti.

I think it goes nicely with many other names although perhaps you won´t choose a middle name that ends with an "-a" sound.

On the continent I´ve heard Patri as an abbreviation too, not sure it would come off in English, though.

OutragedFromLeeds · 19/07/2014 02:06

I think it's awful. I can't imagine anyone under 40 being called Patricia, although I guess all the 50yo Pat's must have been babies once Grin

NormalTea · 19/07/2014 02:08

yak

Patrick for a boy is so handsome but Patricia on a girl is so frumpy.

I don't know a Patricia under forty either. It's my boss's name. I do like my boss. But......... a baby?

catsofa · 19/07/2014 02:43

Yeah, I do kind of think of it as an older person's name, but I don't know any as young as 40 so wondering if it's too soon for it to come back around again. I think all the Patricias I know are at least 60.

How about using it as a middle name?

Kantha · 19/07/2014 07:12

Ok as a full name, but 'Pat ' as a nn is so frumpy. 'Trisha' is better.

burgatroyd · 19/07/2014 07:15

Patrice?

WhispersOfWickedness · 19/07/2014 07:39

My DM's name is Patricia and she hates it Sad

BellMcEnd · 19/07/2014 07:45

I like Patricia a lot. I quite like Patsy as a nickname à la Ab Fab Grin

pilates · 19/07/2014 07:49

If you must as a middle name, but def not as a first.

Please reconsider.

2cats2many · 19/07/2014 07:52

She'll end up being called Pat.

I really don't like it.

Fairylea · 19/07/2014 08:00

I'm not keen. Goes along with Pamela, Denise and Bernadette in terms of age really. I guess they may come round again.

tethersend · 19/07/2014 08:07

Love it- it was our second choice for DD2.

Mind you, we went with Shirley which we love but EVERYBODY hates Grin

mrsnec · 19/07/2014 08:11

Nearly had to use it as a middle name to honour dh's dgm. Not keen on it myself but if pushed I would have gone for Patrice instead as was suggested on here.

The other Patricia we know is in her 40's, she uses Trish but that became Trash to us as a standing joke! Not that it would happen to you.

I'm not averse to old lady names either, I had Yvonne, margurite and Beatrice on my shortlist but dh vetoed all of those!

smokeandglitter · 19/07/2014 08:18

I knew a lovely Patricia nn trisha. I think nice name, not too overused and don't see why she'd be a 'pat', she might prefer pat or trisha or her middle name as she grows, she might be known as a kooky family nn as some of my friends are.

Agree with bell that patsy is also a great nn!

florascotia · 19/07/2014 11:33

I rather like Patricia (and Patsy) but if you are looking for an alternative, what about the Italian version: Patrizia??

pronounciation <a class="break-all" href="//here:www.forvo.com/word/patrizia/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here:www.forvo.com/word/patrizia/

Superrhan · 19/07/2014 15:40

I knew a Patricia that went by Tricia (pron: Tri-si-a) which I think is lovely!

squoosh · 19/07/2014 15:47

Hideous.

GreatAuntDinah · 20/07/2014 13:34

Patrice is a boy's name on the continent, be warned!

Yorkshirelassreturns · 20/07/2014 16:51

I'm normally quite diplomatic but sorry I've got to be honest, I think it's awful. There are so many lovely names out there but I don't think this is one of them. If it has sentimental value then I'd use it as a middle name but not as a first.

LauraChant · 20/07/2014 16:54

I think it's lovely
