Deren

Having major name issues. I have a reason for wanting to use this but wondering if others would have the issues with it I am! Can I please ask the following
Have you heard of it? Ever?
What would you assume the gender to be?
What associations would you link to it?
Anything else to put me off further or make me feel better about it?

Only heard of it in Derren Brown, so I would assume boy? It's ok...not mad on it but if you love it go for it!

Sounds and looks like a misspelling of Darren, which is awful enough spelled correctly.

Derren makes me think of Derren Brown, who is majorly creepy imo.

Darren is ok, a bit 70's maybe.

I know one, but he is a Derryn. The one I know is a grown up and a very lovely chap.

Derren Browns real name is Darren.

Agree with previous posters, will be misspelled as derren and people will think is called after derren brown. Darren is very out of fashion now.

Thanks! These are exactly my issues. I can't stand names that look that they are spelt incorrectly, wouldn't be able to cope with correcting people and not keen on Derren Brown!
For some reason In my head I say it in a welsh accent too which is just odd. Someone above mentioned Deryn which Is a welsh girls name according to google which was yet another issue!

I knew a female Deryn (I think that was how she spelt it) many years ago. She was always known as Deri.

However I would think Deren was a (mis-spelt) boy's name and would immediately think of Derren Brown.

i know 2 girls called Deryn (means bird in Welsh).

Dara, Darin, Darran, Darren are all variants of 'dara' which means 'oak' in Gaelic. Deren is a bit odd. It doesn't really relate to them. To be horribly blunt, it's meaningless. It looks like a made-up name. I do apologise and really, really do not mean to offend, but minority languages do actually have rules and meanings...

As previous poster says, in Welsh Deryn means bird. I also know a female Deri, which (to me) is rather pretty.

No offense taken, I had issues with it in the first place! It is a name because I found it on naming sites as a suggested name, but couldn't find anything else about it and it's variations which I'm not sure are variations at all. I think it was the welsh Deryn and my befuddled pregnancy head pronunciation made me think it might be ok, but literally every issue stated here was already running through my head.
Why are boy's names so hard? I have reasons against every one I come across at the moment.

I wanted to call our son Dennen but my husband hated it, I quite like deren but can imagine people assuming it is spelt derren
