Which name?!

I feel like I should have a strong favourite but I just don't! All my names also have quite different vibes really. Which do you like best and do any of them have positive or negative meanings for you? 6 favourites- Heidi, Matilda, Xanthe, Annabelle, Imogen and Violet. I also like Thea, Lola, Gabriella and Indigo but I think these have been ruled out. Please help!

Xanthe is my favourite name there. I also really like Heidi but I know 3 in their thirties and I'm not sure it translates to grownup women. Xanthe is ultra sophisticated and classy but also suits a baby

ShovettyMcShovetty · 17/07/2014 12:33

Of your names I like Heidi, Annabelle and Violet best.

I really, really dislike Xanthe. Must be a marmite name!

PeanutPatty · 17/07/2014 12:39

Thea. No question. Beautiful name.

TempsPerdu · 17/07/2014 13:58

Definitely Xanthe for me - and yes, I think it is definitely a marmite name! Also quite like Violet, but I tend to prefer it as a middle name for some reason.

The others are all fine, but either a bit girlie/cutesy for me (Annabelle, especially with this spelling and Heidi) or too common (Imogen and Matilda). I tend to like fairly unusual names.

(Love Thea too, but I see that one's been ruled out.)

Vijac · 17/07/2014 14:12

Thanks all. Would you all pronounce Thea -the a or would anyone say Tea a or Tay a? Thanks, I don't really think of Annabelle or Heidi as girly, do others. She is unlikely to be super girly, more likely to be sporty. Is Imogen really popular? I've never met one.

Imogen was no 37 in 2012 (latest figures; stats for 2013 due out in August). Matilda was 47; Annabelle was 72; Heidi was 83, Violet was 100.

I would say 'Tay-ah' but 'Dorothee-a'. Inconsistent, but that's everyday English pronounciation for you.

Vijac · 17/07/2014 17:09

Thanks Flora. Annabelle looks quite low, but my worry is that once you add in the other spelling of it plus all the Anna's ,Belle's,Bella's, Isabella, Analise etc etc you end up with lots iyswim!

Thea is my favourite in case it could be ruled back in. Gorgeous name. I also like Lola and Gabriella from the 'ruled out' list.

From your main list I think Xanthe is the nicest. I like Annabelle but I'm not keen on Belle or Bella.

Legionofboom · 17/07/2014 17:40

I would pronounce Thea as Thee-a but I think Thay-a and Tay-a are also used.

overmydeadbody · 17/07/2014 17:40

Xanthe. Best name ever.

florascotia · 17/07/2014 18:10

Very pleased to help OP. Of your names - all nice - I like Violet best. Violets are such fantastic flowers. If I may say so, I like Violetta/Violeta even better.

Rhubarbgarden · 17/07/2014 18:16

I love Violet and Thea (Thee-a).

serialgrannie · 17/07/2014 18:17

Annabelle. Definitely. Classy and timeless.

pinkgirlythoughts · 17/07/2014 18:30

DS (3) would have been Annabelle or Imogen if he'd been a girl, and Annabelle Xanthe was one of our combos! I also like Violet a lot.

Cpt1sock · 17/07/2014 18:31

Xanthe or violet are my favourites from your list.

Rivercam · 17/07/2014 18:34

Didn't like Xanthe or Matilda. Love Heidi and Violet

From rejected list, don't like Indigo.

I would pronounce Thea as Thee - a.

BellMcEnd · 17/07/2014 18:34

Violet or Xanthe. Lovely names!

hollyisalovelyname · 17/07/2014 18:37

I love Heidi.

escorpion · 17/07/2014 18:44

I love Thea!! My nephew is Theo (pronounced Tayo) dutch pronouncing. So I think Taya would be lovely :)

Howaboutthisone · 17/07/2014 18:58

I think I prefer your rejected list sorry!
Thea is beautiful.
Lola pretty.
Gabriella reminds me of the one girl I taught with that name who was lovely.
I think they're all pretty names but somehow in a girly but strong way that I can't really explain!
I do like Violet too!

Gingerjv · 17/07/2014 19:42

Annabelle, Imogen and Violet are wonderful! Love these names! Matilda - and i imagine some old granny. Thea and Gabriella are also nice. And others names i do not like at all!!

Superrhan · 19/07/2014 15:51

A vote for Thea said Thay-a (although I guess that would be best spelt Théa, but that does look pretentious).

I think it's beautiful!

Stretchmarksarethenewblack · 19/07/2014 16:07

Love Heidi, violet was on my list until it was pointed out how similar it is to violent.. Stupid but it stuck in my head! All the best op xx

Jinty64 · 19/07/2014 16:25

Xanthe is my favourite.

PeanutPatty · 25/07/2014 07:53

Thea pronounced Theeeee-ah. Totally on our girls list.
