Can we give baby same name as cat?

We don't know gender yet so this may be a moot point but the only girls name we both like is what we called or cat (she is 6 and we've had her since she was 9 weeks old, so she is a proper part of the family)

Part of me thinks "well if it was good enough for Indiana Jones" but another part of me thinks it's silly.

Everyone that knows us semi well - family, friends, even some of my work colleagues - will know baby and cat have same name.

What to do?

Def use the name! The cat will will be long gone before your child goes to secondary school. You can alter the cat's name too. e.g if it was Indiana you could change it to Ani (as in Anakin Skywalker). It really won't be a big deal. Smile

My friend has already told the real Richard Hawley there is a cat wandering around named after him…

RICHARD IS THE BEST NAME EVER! Sobs.

weebairn · 17/07/2014 19:37

Me and boyfriend also loved the tiger being called Richard Parker in Life of Pi. Pets with surnames are awesome.

Nothing wrong with that at all Grin

Summer?

duchesse · 17/07/2014 23:05

Madison?

wherethewildthingis · 18/07/2014 21:33

None of those!!

coffeeinbed · 18/07/2014 21:57

Chardonnay?
Taylor?

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 18/07/2014 23:36

I reckon it's Ruby.

coffeeinbed · 18/07/2014 23:51

I think you might be right.
Either Ruby or else Rapunzel.

Ludways · 19/07/2014 00:01

I regularly call the dc's by each other's names or the cats name or my dead dogs name or dh's name. They've learnt that I'm talking to the one I'm looking at rather than the name I'm saying! Lol

I think the cats name is fine, tbh

wherethewildthingis · 19/07/2014 07:11

Are people really called Rapunzel?! I shall put you all out of suspense although this will out me a bit. It's Lola !

WellIShouldNever · 19/07/2014 07:14

We named our DS1 after the rabbit we had for 10 years... Jacob.
We decided on that before we where wed, had DS about 9 years later and stuck to it.
Jacob (the bunny) is buried in the back garden, makes DS1 laugh when we talk about how we buried Jaocb in the back garden....
Bunny was named Jacob cos he loved Jacobs Crackers.

coffeeinbed · 19/07/2014 09:01

Lola is lovely.
Lovely Lola.

We didn't name our DD after our dog but it was very similar (dog sadly now in the kennel in the sky). I get mixed up sometimes and call my DD by the old dogs name.

I think there are so many lovely names that you might find something that is similar and has the same feel that you love.

Lara
Lorelai
Nola
Lyla

Etc

If you had two DD, what would the younger sister be called?

Mammanat222 · 21/07/2014 10:51

Still in Limbo but have a few more options now... and still 5 weeks away from [hopefully] finding out gender.

This is the last child and other child is a boy so we only need that one magic name.

Is the name Mr Pusskins? If not, why not. My sister was named after my dad's friend's hunting dog, she's cool with it. Ironically, my middle name actually is Indiana....

Gingerjv · 21/07/2014 14:09

It's a wonderful name and i love it for both: girl and boy! i do not see any problems if cat also has name Indiana;-)

SpawningSalmon · 21/07/2014 15:02

I know people with Thomas the cat and Thomas the baby; Jenny Hmm the dog and Jenny the Girlfriend; and George the cat and George the Boyfriend. In all cases the pet came first.

I have weird friends.

whotheduckisalice · 23/07/2014 13:23

Please use the name you love and rename the cat. She won't mind and who cares what people think for the five mins they'll think it?
