How many boys called Max do you know?

Hello everyone - this is my first ever mumsnet post :)

We're expecting in September and my husband has always loved the name Max (Maximillian in full) if we have a boy. I really like the name but I've always wanted to avoid turning up to nursery/school and there being lots of other children with the same name. How many boys called Max do you know? (babies and up to 3 years-ish?!)

I've seen the popularity ranks online (Max was 18th in 2013) but I'm not sure how that actually translates to how many children of that name you tend to get in a classroom!

Our favourite girls name doesn't make the top 100 :)

Thanks very much.

One ten year old.

I know several from babies to middle aged. It might be more popular in RC circles thanks to Maximilian Kolbe.

A lot of the younger (teen and down) Maxs that I know have a younger brother named Sam, weirdly enough.

Madamecastafiore · 15/07/2014 05:53

I have a 9 year old Max (Maximilian).

I only know of 1 other who recently joined his school so is about 7.

burgatroyd · 15/07/2014 06:25

PastaBow · 15/07/2014 06:33

A lot! Seems to a name of the 2010s like Finn, Oscar, Archie etc.

Might start to sound dated as it falls out of favour again.

Tweetinat · 15/07/2014 08:07

3 under 3yo and 1 14yo

krazipan · 15/07/2014 08:15

3, one is mine (11yrs), one in his class and 1 at work (early forties?). I think it is a fab name!

PeanutPatty · 15/07/2014 08:15

Five

PeanutPatty · 15/07/2014 08:19

1x 4yo
2x 3.5yo
1x 1yo

Sorry it's 4, not 5.

MostlyMama · 15/07/2014 08:20

My DP's cousin has a DS called Maxwell.

Wetthemogwai · 15/07/2014 08:31

1 in DDS nursery

Had we not named our pet max too it'd be on the list for possible future ds. I love it!

PeanutPatty · 15/07/2014 14:58

I do know a fifth Max. My friend's labrador.

Montsti · 15/07/2014 14:59

I know about 6 under the age of 5 but none are in the same class!

Montsti · 15/07/2014 14:59

And about 3 adult ones.

petitdonkey · 15/07/2014 15:05

Only one aged 10.

It's funny but when I named my son I chose something classical and didn't worry one bit about whether there would be another boy of the same name - there are currently four in his school but two have just finished year 6 so he is left with one other in his year. That boy only joined recently, and whilst I don't wish to have my son have to have his surname used all the time, it didn't bother me.

When I chose my daughter's names I was much more bothered by popularity so chose DD1's name accordingly only for it to become super common that week Grin

As it stands now, that is them, that is their name - I don't give two hoots any more if there is another one so choose what you love!! (we have an unusual surname though so I hope that, like me, they will be the only one on Facebook!!)

CuntWagon · 15/07/2014 15:13

One adult, full name Massimo. No little boys.

SaRaRaRaRa · 15/07/2014 16:52

One, aged 2. Fab name!

HopefulHamster · 15/07/2014 21:38

Two - one aged 4 and one aged 3.

But you can't always avoid a name being popular even if you try! Who knows what the next trend is?

rachel234 · 16/07/2014 07:39

But you can reduce the risk by avoiding a name that is already very popular.

There are thousands of lovely names outside the top 100 and not all of these will become fashionable and rise up to the top 50!

CheesyBadger · 16/07/2014 07:45

1 a baby

TheBuskersDog · 16/07/2014 07:56

Hundreds (not literally) but none in that age group. There are two in ds1's class (y6) and several more further down the school - I'd say at least one per class on average. Which in a single intake school is quite noticeable.

At the school I work in we have one in y1 and one in y2 (not sure about foundation stage as I don't know all their names), so we have one out of ninety in those year groups and none in the rest of the school.
