A middle name for Harriet...

TessOfTheFurbyvilles · 09/07/2014 15:55

Baby girl due in about 9/10 weeks, right now she's a Harriet (might change), and these are our final six combinations (all middle names after family or friends):

Harriet Frances
Harriet Gila (geel-ya)
Harriet Jean
Harriet Joy
Harriet Lucy
Harriet Pearl

Gila would be after someone very dear to both DH and I, it's from the Hebrew for "joy", but I accept it perhaps isn't very English friendly. That's why Harriet Joy is also on the list.

Any comments welcome.

NB: Surname is 10 letters long, starts with a W, and is three-syllables.

Ooh now I like Harriet Joan because I love Joan...but I also like Pearl and Joy. Not that fond of Gila because I knew one that I didn't get on with mainly. Grin

Harriet Pearl

Harriet Joy or Harriet Lucy would be my picks, although there's also something that appeals about Harriet Frances.

I wouldn't pick Pearl or Gila as I think a soft consonant (F or J or L) sounds better after Harriet than a hard consonant (P or G as in girl).

Immediately thought Jane or Joy before I opened the thread, so I'd go with Joy or Jean from your list.

If Gila is an important name for you and your dh then I can see no better combination than Harriet Gila.

Abigail means "father rejoyce". It would be a link to the joy meaning. Could be shortened to Abby.

Harriet Rose
Harriet Eve

I love Harriet Frances, both good strong stand up for themselves kind of names.

Needalittleadvice · 09/07/2014 17:18

Harriet Evelyn or from your list Harriet Joy.

Rhubarbgarden · 09/07/2014 18:00

Harriet Jean is my favourite but I also really like Harriet Gila.

Sophronia · 09/07/2014 19:54

Harriet Gila or Harriet Joy.

HenI5 · 09/07/2014 20:59

Harriet Gila.
There's obviously a special and good reason for choosing it so you should go with it Smile

Harriet Gila.

I have a Harriet Eleri. Great name.

BlueStarsAtNight · 09/07/2014 21:58

I like Lucy or Joy best. Though if Gila is important to you then maybe go with it. Pronunciation of middle name is nowhere near as much of a problem as first name.

I like Gila. It's interesting and that's what middle names are for IMO, interest, connections and stories.
