Hi everyone,

If I have a girl I would love to call her Isabel, it's fairly common though which puts me off a bit? But it's so pretty and feminine which I love.

What do you guys think of it?

It's nice but I thought it was spelt Isabelle.

Cherryblossom200 · 09/07/2014 15:47

I think there are lots of variations, Isobel is another version too

It's nice.
Isabel
Isabelle
Isobel

very lovely whichever variant you choose. it is very popular at the moment but that's not really a problem.

PoppyAmex · 09/07/2014 15:57

Isabel is a lovely name and very classic (both for Queens and Saints) in the continent.

This is also my favourite spelling.

Cherryblossom200 · 09/07/2014 16:01

I think the spelling of Isabel is my favourite way :) it's just very pretty! x

Its not my thing really so many around aswell I know 2 Isabels both spelt different also know a Isabella

scaevola · 09/07/2014 17:04

Compared to Evie and Sophie, there aren't so many.

There were a lot born in about 2005-2010, but it's a lovely, classic pan-European name so it's not surprising it's well liked.

squoosh · 09/07/2014 17:05

My goddaughter was nearly called Isabelle, luckily she wasn't as her three best pals in nursery all turned out to be Isabelles.

Go for it if you love it, I personally think it's been done to death in the past few years.

Cherryblossom200 · 09/07/2014 17:09

Hmmm that's what I'm worried about! I do love French girls names..so if anyone can come up with something equally
pretty but less popular please let me know :)

It must depend on where you live, round here it (and variants) seem to be the most popular girls name.

burgatroyd · 09/07/2014 19:26

Agree with squoosh. I know lots of Isobel's.

Wishfulmakeupping · 09/07/2014 19:31

Lovely name but so so popular for that reason personally I didn't consider it got my dd name even though I've always thought it very pretty. What about Camille?

Sophronia · 09/07/2014 19:52

I like it, my favourite spelling is Isobel but they're all lovely.

MummyBeerest · 09/07/2014 20:00

I think they're all pretty. I've also heard of Isaline (Is-a-leen) also a French name. Worth considering?

OhTinky · 09/07/2014 20:03

I have one. I love it! I hear Isabella more than Isabelle. But really don't care that it's popular, it's a gorgeous name!

It was always my favourite girls' name when I was a teenager, dreaming of my future daughter, but then it became really popular (it's not unusual to have 2 or 3 in a class at the school where I teach). Its popularity may not bother you - that's something only you can decide. I went with it as a middle name, in the end.

Cherryblossom200 · 09/07/2014 20:47

I adore the name but the fact it's so popular bugs me a bit. I love the spelling Isobel too. Camille is sweet :) a bit like Camilla? Amelie is another lovely French name but again so popular! Grrr! Ha x
