My dd is called sydney we are thinking of trying for baby no.2, mid conversation we sort of had "ooo what goes with Sydney?" I like bo or bay (obvs liking the B's) for a girl and couldn't think of any boys names! Any thoughts?

Oh Beau (this spelling) goes lovely with Sydney.

I think Beau is a boys name? I know it is on Emma Bunton's son anyway! I do think it would go for a boy though.

In so far as Beau is a name at all, it's a boy's name.

But remember this is a grown up person you're naming, not a baby.

Bo is a proper name of Swedish origins and can be unisex, if I remember rightly Ulrika johnsson has a little girl named this. It goes well with Sydney and has the same androgynous vibe. Bay is also nice, has a nature feel to it as well as being unisex. If you like unusual names I expect you're used to the naysayers but go for what you love, I think they are fine and don't let anyone tell you they aren't 'proper' names.

I know a little girl called Beau, spelt Beau. I also know toe young boys called Beau

Bo to my mind is a boy's name. What about Beatrice if you like B names so much;-)

Could it be Bo for a girl and Beau for a boy?
Bay seems unisex too so fits nicely with Sydney.

Calling a girl Beau just makes the parents look ignorant. And if you use Bay you'd better not have any Yorkshire connections!

Ha! Sydney and bay! May have to call them in reverse order! I was thinking bo as in ulrikas bo or Bo Derek, not beau. Hmmm food for thought, I guess when you think of your 2nd name it doesn't necessarily have to "go" with the 1st. (Blessing, harmony and Kevin, along those lines)

I have a friend who has a DD called Beau and apparently its origin is French for beautiful, so I don't think it is ignorant of any parents to call their DDs this name. There are lots of complimentary names for a Sydney, but my favourite would be Madison or Reagan :)

Beau is french for beautiful, but only for a boy. If it's a girl, the french word for beautiful is Belle. It's a pet hate of mine for girls to be called Beau, because it is a masculine word! Hence the ignorance!

Bo/Boe I think are both cute for a girl, but as a nickname. As said above, you are naming an adult as well as a baby and I can't imagine someone at work having their e-mail signature as Bo Jones for example.

It is French, but it means good looking, and is masculine. Belle is the feminine word. So yes, I am afraid it is ignorant.

Well after you pointed this out Hakluyt I entered it into 3 top googled baby name sites and each one said that the name was unisex and the origin, not meaning, was beautiful. Maybe people who you consider ignorant just did different research [happy]

That was in response to whatever's post - don't like Bo, do like bay but with Sydney I wouldn't go for it! What about something with belle or Bella etc as a nickname like Isabella, Isobel etc for b names?
