Hi, im 14 week dont know what were having yet obviously. Weve been talking names already and struggle to agree on anything so far only 2 out of girls we like is Sophie or Ellie lovely names but theres just so many about. For boys were kind of the same we agree on both Joshua and Riley as strong favouries but same again very popular.

I have 4 children already and all of them have other children in their class with same names Lucas is 1 of 4 just in his class and there must be about a dousen Jakes in the school gets very confusing for them so want something different. My partner has a son aswell and although hes not used to his name he hated it for ages and had no say in it at all so obviously want it to be different for him

So ideally my choise for a girl would be Scarlett but his exs daughter is called that so hes refusing it, I also love the name Ivy but he thinks its too old fashioned even though told him its very trendy at moment :( He likes Darcey which I do too but I was saying it out loud and just didnt roll off my tongue the way id of liked

Boys I am struggling on I do like the name Riley but they are everywhere. Hes coming at me with names like Billy and Bobby but Im not keen and as ive already pointed out he doesnt like Ivy as its old fashioned so are they..

So can anyone inspire us, something modern but not to wacky something not too obvious been reading the birth announcements online but everythings so plain and original

Please help

Dd aged 10 has 5 Ellies in her class. What about Romilly? I have one and haven't met another one yet. I also like Ethne but no one else does

Im no good with boys names as have 3 dds but would probably go with a classic name like Matthew, Daniel, Luke. I think if i had a boy (not happening) i would call it Jamieson as its a family name. I like Brodie and Corey but definately not MN names.

ILoveCoreyHaim · 07/07/2014 16:44

I like Riley btw. Only met one, hes my dds friends DB. Non in any of my 3 dds classes either.

Thanks for your suggestions, Yes I really do like Violet aswell I was going to put it on my list but I had a feeling OH will snub it so didnt bother. Another girl name I heard today always liked it considered it with my eldest and that is Cerys what does anyone think? I know when I considered ot before everyone was saying they hated it but I do really like it may have to add it to the list :)

Boys I think is such a struggle I like Bradley which has been suggested above doesnt seem to be that popular at the moment either. Riley is really popular round here there is 2 under 5 just on our street and I know of a few in school.

I like it. What about Cecily as well. Yes sounds like names are more popular in different areas. Round my way NE there's loads of Archie's and Alfie's all under 3. Older ones there's loads of Finlay's and Luke's. I really struggle with boys names.
Girls there are loads of Ellie's, Eve's, Ava's and Amy's.

Kantha · 07/07/2014 18:33

I like Cerys, but personally would be reluctant to use it unless I had strong Welsh connections. Otherwise people will assume you are a big Cerys Matthews fan. Nothing against her but she has made the name popular elsewhere in the country I think.

Keira?

I would definitely avoid Riley if you have that many locally to you. Sounds like you like 'surnamey' names if you like Riley and Bradley. So, what about:

Harrison
Ryder
Evan
Dexter
Is one of your DCs Lucas (can't check back on the mobile) if not, I would suggest that too.

Passthebiscuitspls · 07/07/2014 19:41

Surname type names that I can think of;

Morgan
Taylor
Ellis

crazylady321 · 08/07/2014 17:09

hi again, yes I have a Lucas and its his name thats put me off calling it something popular there is 4 just in his class. My elder son is Jake and school is over run with them too. My daughters names are Casey and Paige and they arent too popular there is one girl in Caseys class called it but its spelled with a K and double barrelled with Leigh. Surprised there is another Paige in with my daughter though as id not heard of many been born around the time I had her

Yes think its area thing, when I was having my twins 4 years ago all the boys seemed to be Alfie and Charlie and the girls Lily and Ruby. Its funny though because when I was having My eldest all the girls seemed to be Ellie or Ella, Maisie and Chloe and wanted to get away from those type of names, but I actually love Ellie now and doesnt seem to be many been born but if possible I think I would like something a bit more unique.

Lol yes think Cerys Matthews did make the name popular I dont know of that many mind I just remember really liking it after a neighbour called hers it shes about 14 now but when her mum shouted her to come in I used to think how nice it was.

Thank you for the boys suggestions aswell, ha id not realised I do like surname sounding names not purpously.

Ryder is a very different name do like it has a very strong masculine feel to it.
The other suggestions are ok but again I know alot of them are about locally and Dexter is my inlaws Jack russell lol

rosepetalsoup · 08/07/2014 22:13

What about Iris?

HaroldLloyd · 08/07/2014 22:14

Riley isn't common around here either..

Ihearthickson · 08/07/2014 22:34

Based on your children's names what about

Brooke
Madison
Lois

Max
Zachary
Jackson

crazylady321 · 09/07/2014 10:12

Thank you for the Iris suggestion I really like that :)

I do like the girls names suggested above although I have a friend with a daughter called Brooke, I like Madison but I dont like "Maddie" and bet people would shorten it.

Hes suggested Leah aswell last night but as middle name will be Michelle I dont think it sounds that well. Leah Michelle although seeing it wrote down doesntlook too bad :)

Rhubarbgarden · 09/07/2014 17:57
