Calling dd2 Olivia?

slithytove · 01/07/2014 20:21

I love it. It goes well with our surname, nicely with siblings names, initials are nice, nicknames are lovely, and DH loves it.

It is the only name we both like.

But it's so bloody popular!
What do you think? Should I go for it regardless?

Other names considered are Verity, )DH likes, I don't think it's right) and Hannah (I like, DH not so keen)

Thoughts and suggestions please!

I also love the name Millie, but it would have to be a nickname and I hate the two related longer names Camilla and Millicent

Go with Olivia :)

Mind you I have a Ben. One of the most common names around!

If not, Hannah is nice, or Anna? If DS2 had been a girl Anna would have been on our short list. Verity is not a name I'd choose.

TheOneAndOnlyAlpha · 01/07/2014 20:28

I'd go with what you like. My DS probably has the most popular boys name at school. I couldn't care less. It suits him!

I like Olivia. I know lots, some are Olivia, some Liv, Livvy. One is Via (Vee-ah)

NanaNina · 01/07/2014 20:51

Yes Olivia is a lovely name but soooo popular.

How about Lydia, Erin or Anya (my DGD's name) and very unusual. I think Hannah was very popular a few years ago, most of them will be around 15/16 I think! Anna is a lovely name as is Verity but a bit posh sounding!

I think there are going to be classes full of Olivias, Chloes, Lillys, Graces and all sorts of Ellie/Ellie-Mae/Evie, in 5 years time but I think you should use it if you like it so much. I have a DGD Isla but that is getting very popular now.

I like classical names, Harriet, Catherine, Ruth, Elizabeth, but not everyone's choice I know.

AChildminder88 · 01/07/2014 20:59

Or Amelia for millie?

Olivia will be popular for a while I should imagine, like Emily once was- I had 4 Emily's in my year 10 class!! If you love it- use it. There will only ever be one Olivia who has you and your OH as her parents!

slithytove · 01/07/2014 21:13

I know an Amelia so wouldn't feel right using that. Don't like Anna but still love Hannah.

Sibling names are Gabrielle and Zachary. Is Verity posh? Haha DH isn't in the slightest?

If you love it, use it.

It's a beautiful name.

Trooperslane · 01/07/2014 21:17

Was on the short list for dd

then she arrived and she was a Lara

Will be on short list for dd2 if it ever happens.

I love it Grin

OooOooTheMonkey · 01/07/2014 21:44

What about Romilly for a Milly? I think Olivia is lovely though. Go for it Smile

Poussay · 01/07/2014 21:53

Olivia is popular but I think the most popular girls names aren't as popular as the most popular boys name, as there seem to be so many girls names out there. She could easily still be the only Olivia in the class. If you love it, use it.

fanjodisfunction · 01/07/2014 22:37

I know an amelie known as millie, but still close to amelia.

I only know one olivia, I think popular names today arent the same as when we grew up, theres so many names outnthere now that I think its unlikely or very unfortunate to be in a class at school with too many of the same name.

like your other choices.

slithytove · 01/07/2014 23:30

Thank you all for replies, I'm feeling better about it now :)

Olivia is popular but it's a nice name, I'd say still use it.

Millie could also be short for Emilia, Emilie, Emily, Melissa, Matilda, Amelie, Camille, Milena, Mileva, Milla, Mila, Melisande, Milana, Emmeline, Maximilienne, Meliora, Romilda, Millaray, Melinda.

AnsonsVoyageRoundTheWorld · 02/07/2014 01:33

It's a nuisance that it is so popular but it wouldn't stop me from using it.

TheBookofRuth · 02/07/2014 03:19

I've yet to meet a little Olivia, though I know two in their 30s.

Love your other DCs names.

weatherall · 02/07/2014 06:27

You could try Olive (both Drew Barrymore and Isla fisher have olive DDs) or Livia.

Verity's my favourite of those.

I don't think it's posh at all. In fact I'd worry it was in the chav category kind if like Liberty.

burgatroyd · 02/07/2014 07:23

I love Olivia. However I think the name will date. Amelia also very popular.

Serena, Ophelia, Octavia?

slithytove · 02/07/2014 10:05

I love and want ophelia, DH hates it!
Didn't realise verity was posh or chavvy, good thing I don't like it!

I like Milla, will suggest to DH

If you love the name and won't be irritated by her possibly having a few Olivias in her peer group then go for it.

siamesekittensatplay · 02/07/2014 11:11

Off topic but its strange how a slight difference alters a name for you. I think Olivia is lovely but Olive just makes me think of old ladies, or oil.

Romilly seems to come up in a lot of discussions on here, I'm not a fan!

Em1503 · 02/07/2014 12:15

I am due in a few weeks and we have decided to go with Olivia. It's the name we keep coming back to and the one we both really like so we're going with it. I know it's meant to be really popular but I don't know of anybody else who has used this name personally so I'm not going to let it bother me! It's not the end of the world if she has a classmate with the same name.

Teabiscuits · 02/07/2014 12:59

Having a popular name isn't the worst thing, personally from a child's point of view I would be more worried about having a really unusual name that could single them out.

That said I have a really strong, classic, ever popular name and I hate it! Not because it's well used, I just hate the name.

If you love Olivia then go for it! Better than choosing a name you don't like as much just because Olivia is popular.

ChickenMe · 02/07/2014 23:42

If you love it then you'll probably regret not choosing it. Yes it's very popular. But at my school it was Caroline/Catherine Central and I doubt they are scarred for life!!!

ilovehotsauce · 02/07/2014 23:57

Love Olivia but my dd is amelia I don't really care about the popular name stuff I have a different name and so does dh and all we wanted as kids was to be able to get a cup/keyring with our names on it!

It will be like Lauren or Amy or Rebecca if you love it use it!
