Nell Rose / Rosanna / Rosa

We're expecting dd3, and have the name Nell chosen. It will definitely not be short for anything as I don't do shortening names and want to give my children names that can't be shortened (I know I'm in the minority on mn).

DD1 really wants to call the baby Rose, and I'd like to use that as a middle name just for her but Nell Rose doesn't seem to go, or flow nicely, both being one syllable - it also sounds like "Melrose"!

Alternatives so far that we've considered are:

Nell Rosanna (my favourite so far)
Nell Rosalie
Nell Rosa
Nell Rosamund

or adding another name in between

Nell Cicely Rose
Nell Elena Rose (wonder if Nell and Elena too similar)
Nell Genevieve Rose

DH isn't keen on having two middle names. Ideas gratefully received!

Surname has 2 syllables and is French.

Nell Rosanna is my favourite.

Of the two middle names combos you suggest I like Nell Genevieve Rose best, and Genevieve is a nice link to your French surname.

I do think Nell & Elena are too similar to work together.

All my DC have names that can't be shortened, so you are not alone on MN Smile. I like lots of longer names too, but we just seemed to like short neat ones for all our boys.

I like Nell Rosamund. Nell Rosanna is nice too.

Nell is very nice. So is Roseanna.
I also like Rosamund and Rosalind. Both under-used but classic and feminine.

Nell and Elena are both versions - a bit distant - of the same name, ie Helen, so you won't want them together.

Cicely and Genevieve are also good names, and go well with Rose as a second middle name, if your OH agrees. But, as SO many other Mumsnetters have said, apart from 'being there' to commemorate/ please family or fulfil some other personal association, middle names are not used in everyday life. So - my opinion, anyway - don't get too worried about how they go with firstname.

DO check full set of initials and what they spell, however.

Thanks :-) I'm leaning towards Nell Rosanna.

Nell Genevieve Rose is stunning!

I like Rosa best out of the middle names, but I think Nell Rosanna flows best, especially with a 2 syllable surname. Lovely name!
