Adorable, sweet and sassy or a cow's name?

Love it.
Would call baby Elizabeth though.
Currently reading about Bess of Hardwick, formidable woman Smile

Defiantly Elizabeth then if she doesn't like Bess when she grows up she can call herself what she likes.

MrsLettuce · 28/06/2014 14:00

Bess is lovely - agree with Elizabeth for the birth certificate name.

coldtoe · 28/06/2014 14:17

It would definitely just be Bess on BC, not Elizabeth. I have a BC name myself and a 'nickname' which I have always been called. I don't link the BC name to me at all and if someone calls it I look around for 'BCname' as
it is just not me. So much so that close family members have called their baby my BC name and never even linked it to me!

I love Bess.

caker · 28/06/2014 14:36

Lovely name!

squoosh · 28/06/2014 16:55

It makes me think of a busty 17th century tavern wench who hoiks up her skirts for any passing highway men.

Having said that, I do like it!

frames · 28/06/2014 16:57

Its fab. Great name.

deepbluetr · 28/06/2014 17:12

squoosh- you made me chuckle. I agree though.
It's a strong name for a strong woman with thick forearms.

Castlelough · 28/06/2014 19:12

I like it, and Bessie is really sweet! Reminds me of an Enid Blyton book I loved as a child!

nooka · 28/06/2014 19:28

As a nickname for an Elizabeth it's OK, as a name on it's own then no I don't like it at all. Much too short. Good for a collie :)

OutragedFromLeeds · 28/06/2014 19:32

It makes me think of 'Big Bess', which was an arcade game where you threw balls into a fat woman's mouth in order to win tickets that could later be swapped for a pencil/rubber/yoyo.

RabbitSaysWoof · 28/06/2014 20:00

I love it.

Pixiedust49 · 28/06/2014 20:06

I like it. But why not Elizabeth on BC? It's up to her whether she ever uses it or not when she's older. You never have to use it if you don't want to, but she's still got the option.

coldtoe · 28/06/2014 20:42

Because I know from experience how annoying it is to have to use a name which isn't yours on official forms. I feel like a fraud writing my BC name and look stupid when the doctor calls it and I don't respond until they've called it a few times then get up mumbling 'oh yes that's me', looking like a fool who doesn't know her name!
