Advice and opinions on these names please!

How do you pronounce Ivor? Do you pronounce the OR or as ER or Iva?

Someone suggested Ivo to me? Is this pronounced I as the letter i then VO?

What do you think of these names and are they popular where you live? Do you know any?

Thanks!!!

Erm. Yeah. Sorry. I'm now wondering if I might have given the dutch pronunciation - am hungover and can't quite get my brain to work properly Confused

The only Ivo I know has Italian parents and pronounces his name Ee-vo.
I would pronounce Ivor as Eye-vor but have also heard it pronounced Eye-ver (to rhyme with driver). It makes me think 'Russian'.

HamAndPlaques · 28/06/2014 14:22

I know several Welsh Ifors, pron. iv-or with a short 'i'.

Showy · 28/06/2014 14:44

I know two Ivos. Both eye-vo. Love it.

Ivor I pronounce eye-vuh.

HollyBen · 28/06/2014 14:56

I'd agree with the eye-vo pronunciation if Ivo as this us how the one I know is pronounced. I'd be wary of using it if you are unsure on pronunciation and there are differing opinions but that is personal to me

squoosh · 28/06/2014 16:48

I love Ivo (eye-vo).

DramaAlpaca · 28/06/2014 16:54

Ivor (eye-vuh) I don't like at all.

Ivo (eye-vo) I really like.

AFAIK Ivo can be pronounced both ways. It is definitely ee-vo in eastern Europe.

I don't know any of either name.

Jennifersrabbit · 28/06/2014 17:08

I would say Eye-vore with a very rolled r, but this may be due to DS' much missed toddler obsession with Ivor the Engine Smile

Would you object to engine associations?

Jennifersrabbit · 28/06/2014 17:12

Ps if you don't know Ivor the Engine maybe watch it before deciding - one of the greatest 70s children's animations and I would personally be perfectly happy to name a child after said steam engine Smile

eatyourveg · 28/06/2014 17:29

I'd go for Idris the dragon Jennifersrabbit Grin

Jennifersrabbit · 28/06/2014 17:43

Oh yes Idris would be an even better name!

but we may be diverting the thread slightly...

florascotia · 28/06/2014 21:53

Pronounced EE-vo:

roastpots · 28/06/2014 21:56

when i lived in a student house of girls we had a neighbour called Ivor - nicknamed "Iva Biggun"...!

Alita7 · 28/06/2014 21:58

I like both :) Ivor was on my list but dp says no, I would say it Eye va.
I've met one Ivo pronounced Eye vo.

Go for it!

MiloSimpson · 28/06/2014 22:21

I love Ivo - I've also heard it pronounced as Eye Vo

moggle · 28/06/2014 23:29

In St Ives (Cambs) there is a school called the Ivo and they pronouce it Eye-vo...

moggle · 28/06/2014 23:30

Sorry it is St Ivo... my memory is terrible. but still.

badtime · 28/06/2014 23:54

Any men I have ever met called Ivo pronounced it 'ee-vo'. I don't like 'eye-vo' at all.

littlejohnnydory · 29/06/2014 20:59

I love Ivo (eye-vo). We can't use it because a good friend has a Welsh Ifor!
