is this too much for a middle name?

I had my dd5 last friday and we have finally decided on phoebe for her 1st name, but I am now struggling with the middle name. my other 4 dd have 1 middle name which is after a family member. we are discussing using our grandmother's names so she would have 2 middle names.

her name would be phoebe audrey betty or phoebe betty audrey.

my question is, is this too much? does it sound right and if so which way round do you think sounds better?

No, not too much at all (unless you have a double barrelled surname too).

FWIW, I prefer Audrey Betty to Betty Audrey.

Hmm.. I think I like the second one better. It is a bit of a mouthful with all three names being 2 syllables each. Two of my kids have 3 names along the lines of.. Daniel James Andrew. I think if one of the names was a one syllable name it may roll off the tongue better. That could just be down to my weird Yankee accent too... Maybe it flows better said with an English accent?

Thank you! I think I have been doubting it as my other daughters only have one middle name and I didnt want it to sound wrong, obviously only using one name isn't an option as we dont want to upset anyone and this is definitely our last!

I prefer Phoebe Audrey Betty. I think it's a nice idea. We plan on using our mums' names as middle names if we have a DD.

What was Betty's real name? In that day and age, Betty would have been short for Elizabeth, or something similar. So how about Phoebe Elizabeth Audrey (gets rid of one of the "ee" sounds" - too many of them for my taste)

Her name is betty not short for anything so no alternative is there. I think I will go with it as I really do want her middle name mean something. Thanks again!

FWIW, DS3 has 2 middle names whereas DSs1&2 only have one each.

The reason is that we wanted DS3's middle name to be Richard (after my stepfather) but DS1 (aged 3 at the time) was adamant that it should be George (after George Pig!). So we gave him both.
