Can I call my baby girl Zara or is it forever more a shop?

Exactly that.

As you can tell by my username it's a name I like Grin

We are considering this name at the moment but has it been ruined by it being a massive global shop?! Would she hate me for it?

I've met two baby Zaras recently, and it really suited them - two lovely beautiful girls!

My first thought is of Zara Tyndall (Princess Anne's daughter), rather than the shop! I think you should go with it!

Lucked · 21/06/2014 23:07

Of course you can. Lovely name, go for it.

thatwhichwecallarose · 21/06/2014 23:08

I like it! Unfortunately DH doesn't. But like others my first thought Zara Phillips (or whatever surname she uses these days!)

BlueStarsAtNight · 21/06/2014 23:27

I agree, Zara Tyndall/Philips has made the name a name again, so it's definitely useable! I know a baby Zara, I think it's a beautiful name.

HexBramble · 22/06/2014 07:02

FWIW, I didn't even consider the shop until you mentioned it!

Lovely name.

BikeRunSki · 22/06/2014 07:05

Zara Tyndall springs to mind, not the shop
It's a nice name, use it.

Sephy · 22/06/2014 07:08

Agree with the others, and think of the (almost) princess not the shop.

TheLastThneed · 22/06/2014 07:13

My friend's daughter is Zara, and I've never made the link with the shop. I think you should use it. Lovely name.

bigkidsdidit · 22/06/2014 07:14

I have two boys and I've just realised their names are both clothes shops Grin

If I have a girl I'll have to call her Zara!

It's a lovely name.

meisiemee · 22/06/2014 10:06

Lovely name Grin

manicinsomniac · 22/06/2014 10:43

It's a gorgeous name. It was on my shortlist for DD2 and 3 and I very nearly chose it this time (went for Xanthe if you want something similar sounding that isn't a shop?)

I really don't think the shop matters at all. It was a name first and is still primarily a name to most people. It's hardly like calling your child Top Shop!

Zara8 · 22/06/2014 10:45

Thank you all so much! Have officially put Zara back on our shortlist now.

I think I was just being overly paranoid at my 12 year old saying "mum I can't believe you named me after a shop, it's so embarrassing, everyone teases me!!"

I'm sure she'll find something else embarrassing that I do/have inflicted on her.... Wink

It's a really old name and was around looong before the shop.

It was on our list too but we chose Zara with an L, iyswim Grin

BumpNGrind · 22/06/2014 11:11

My 19 year old cousin is Zara and I don't think I've ever associated with the shop, despite being one of their customers. My cousin suits her name, its easy to say but different enough that she's the only Zara I know in rl.

Pennastucky · 22/06/2014 11:14

Its a lovely name and I dont think of the shop.

Bunbaker · 22/06/2014 11:16

I never shop in Zara so it wouldn't have a occurred to me. My first thought was of a friend's little girl who is called Zara, and then Princess Anne's daughter.

weatherall · 22/06/2014 11:17

I've never been in the shop so the thought wouldn't cross my mind.

I think of Phillips.

diddl · 22/06/2014 12:00

It's a lovely name.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it means light & P Charles suggested it as she was born early in the morning!

CruCru · 22/06/2014 18:05

Would you consider Zahrah? It's the Arabic spelling I think.

SueDNim · 22/06/2014 18:12

It's a lovely name. I wanted it for DD, but DH said we weren't posh enough, so he must have been thinking of Zara Phillips.

Poussay · 22/06/2014 18:14
