No it's quite nice if you think of it in a Scottish landscape kind of way. It's a bit overused IMO so that would put me off but nowt wrong with it.

And of course there's the gorgeous Maclachlan

CheerfulYank · 19/06/2014 17:55

Not here in the US. It is a very "80s" name though, like Brandon, Jason, etc.

Fragglewump · 19/06/2014 17:56

It's a 'naughty boy' name where I live (dons metal helmet and retreats)

Purplecircle · 19/06/2014 18:00

Sorry, it's making me think of South Park and the song about Kyles mom being a bitch.
Tbh only someone who was around in the 90s might think that though

MildDrPepperAddiction · 19/06/2014 18:04

I don't like it. Mostly because I know a horrible boy called Kyle.

treaclesoda · 19/06/2014 18:04

I quite like it but sadly where I live it has connotations of, er, flag waving loyalism. If you're not in NI though, I think it's ok. Mumsnet hates names that start with K though Grin

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 19/06/2014 18:08

I dont like the look of it written down, too spikey and sharp - same as Luke (whereas Lucas looks softer).

Round my way it would be pronounced Keh-yull which I think just sounds awful.

I agree with a pp about "naughty names" - whilst I dont think the name makes the person naughty, every Kyle and Ryan (sorry) ive ever come into contact with have been little worky tickets as teenagers.

DogCalledRudis · 19/06/2014 18:27

My DS1 has a second name Luke :(

Yep kyles mom is a bitch. It's a whole song.

Leeds2 · 19/06/2014 18:31

I wouldn't choose Kyle.

Boomer51 · 19/06/2014 18:32

Naughty boy name here as well. And it begins with a K.

Bowlersarm · 19/06/2014 18:34

Luke is a fantastic name.

(Although not sure Kyle is)

treaclesoda · 19/06/2014 18:38

Luke is a fantastic name.

treaclesoda · 19/06/2014 18:39

oops, I didn't actually mean to completely copy the previous post. Great minds think alike and all that!

flightdove · 19/06/2014 18:40

Lovely if spelled Kyal

LynetteScavo · 19/06/2014 18:43

Some people with think it's a great name, some will think it's awful....not everyone is going to like the same name!

It's a bit of a non-question, really.

FatherSpodoKomodo · 19/06/2014 18:49

I like it, it is my no.2 sons name. He's lovely. I got the name from Kyle Mclachlan - Sex and The City was on at the time!

He's the only one in his school, though there are a few in his brothers school. Some of them are good kids, some of them are naughty.

Obviously mine is an angel. Wink

CPtart · 19/06/2014 18:52

It's in the same vein as Ryan, Callum, Dylan, etc. Not my cup of tea.
I agree, Luke is a fantastic name. I have one!

Heels99 · 19/06/2014 18:57

It is chavvy and always on the list of names teachers dread because it means naughty kid and disinterested parent. But go for it if you love it!

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 19/06/2014 19:02

The only Kyle I know is in his forties and perfectly charming (and Scottish) so I don't have negative preconceptions about it at all. But I think it got pretty popular for a while (possibly because of Kyle McLachlan) so perhaps it's a bit dated.

Purplecircle · 19/06/2014 20:19

My hairdresser is married to a Kyle and calls him ky yull

Mumof3xox · 19/06/2014 20:20

Reminds me of Jeremy

Dollydowser · 19/06/2014 20:21

Only because it rhymes with vile. And K names are frowned upon on MN.

susiedaisy · 19/06/2014 20:23

South Park. Jeremy Kyle. Not keen on it sorry.
