Jesse for a boy?

I think we're more or less decided on Leo Thomas for a boy, but I have a little soft spot for Jesse.

Would just be interested to hear what your instant reaction would be to Jesse as a boys name (pronounced Jessie)?

I think I've always loved the name since seeing Free Willy 20 years ago! Having just got into Breaking Bad and hearing the name again has reminded me how much I love it!

I know Jessie is a popular girls name though, so wouldn't want to set our boy up for name calling.

Would probably be Jesse Thomas.

Thoughts?

I love Jesse - great name.

I really like Jesse! It would definitely be on my list if my husband's name didn't start with a J.

I love it.

A lovely and original name for a boy. I immediately think of Jesse James too...

burgatroyd · 21/06/2014 11:48

No, sorry. That is a name I think kids like take the mick of. Unless he's incredibly cool. But it might toughen him up. Thinking of boy named Sue now...

I love Jesse. It's on the list for the third DC we will never have!

Hatetidyingthehouse · 21/06/2014 12:01

Love. Toying with it ourselves

I love Jesse. In fact my six week old ds is called Jesse Grin

We live in an English town with a high population of Scottish people, also, I'm half Scottish, as is dh. Absolutely none of my Scottish family have taken the piss, nor has anyone other than our mothers. We responded by telling them to grow up and challenging their concerns over "ya big Jessie" by asking what exactly is wrong with being likened to a female? It's just not acceptable in this day and age to use being gay or "female like" as an insult. It's misogynistic.

Anyway, we only get good comments about his name and he really suits it.

Oh and Jess in Postman Pat was a boy cat Grin

I love it but wouldn't use it in this country. DS's dad is American and also has a name that is considered a girls name in the UK but unisex in USA so if we'd settled there after getting married I might have used it

fattycow · 21/06/2014 13:08

Over here it is considered a boys name. There are very few girls named Jessie, but Jesse is not unusual at all. It is pronounced differently from Jessie as well.
The J is pronounced like the Y in you.
The first E is pronounced like the first E in elephant.
The SS sounds the same as in English.
The second E is pronounced like the second E in elephant.
