Too try hard?

I like India as a short name.

Feel I may have started going a bit off track with my name search!

I love Indigo. I have heard it at least once called out in a playground, so it's not completely unheard of.

rachel234 · 18/06/2014 14:03

Great name - strong, masculine, cool and not overused!

Why wouldn't you want to try hard to find a lovely name for your son Smile?!

Clargo55 · 18/06/2014 14:04

I know a little boy called Indigo, he is super cute. His parents did get a few comments though.

schoolsgettingonmynerves · 18/06/2014 14:16

Sorry I thought it was a lovely name for a girl!!!!

BlueKarou · 18/06/2014 14:43

I love it as a name for either sex. Couldn't use it myself as I have pets named India and Digby, which I shorten to Indi and Digs - would look like the child was named after the critters!

Nereida · 18/06/2014 15:10

I like it for a boy but not for a girl.

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 18/06/2014 15:15

Indigo is a boys' name, not a girls name IMO. I love it. It's not the kind of name I usually go for (bit of a traditionalist, me), but I really love Indigo.

softlysoftly · 18/06/2014 15:18

I was thinking girl! Not sure now!

OP posts:
Ludways · 18/06/2014 15:20

It's a boys name, don't really like it but I'd never think girl, tbh

stripedtortoise · 18/06/2014 15:24

It's nice, although not my taste.

I tend not to like names that sort of come with a certain personality/style. I'd imagine an Indigo would absolutely have to be a veggie hippy!

Mrsindecision · 18/06/2014 15:37

I know a young female Indigo and it really suits her - she goes by Indi as a nn.

MummyBeerest · 18/06/2014 15:40

I like it, esp with Indie as a nn. I actually see it as more of a girl's name.

Basilplant · 18/06/2014 15:41

No it isn't. It's not a name at all- it's a colour, Inigo is a boy's name........

softlysoftly · 18/06/2014 15:42

I think its the NN I like. We are a shooting, fishing, farming type family so perhaps not lentil weavy enough for it Grin

Boudica1990 · 18/06/2014 15:46

Not my taste but still nice :)

Does make me think of the old light spectrum roygbiv though. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, Indigo, Violet.

ChickenMe · 18/06/2014 15:55

Like it. Great colour, mysterious and unusual. Nn Indie v cool.

PetaPipa · 18/06/2014 18:10

I have only heard of it for girls, but would think it's fairly united. Indio and Inigo however are definitely boy's names.

PetaPipa · 18/06/2014 18:10

Oops united = unisex

florascotia · 18/06/2014 18:48

If you are thinking of India as a short name, then what about Indiana (unisex) as the long version?

Was used as a name for heroines in 18th/19th cent novels (by Fanny Burney and George Sand) long before Indiana Jones.

Personally, I'm not too keen on place names as personal names but if you like the name India then that is presumably not a worry for you.

Or what about long names Indira and Indrani (both girl's names)?

miffybun73 · 18/06/2014 22:20

I only know one Indigo (a girl)

I didn't know that it was an actual name, but rather a colour of the rainbow.

Sounds pretty though :)

Lesleythegiraffe · 18/06/2014 22:22

Have never heard it used as a name, but know of an Indie - not sure if it's short for India, Indigo or just a name on its own

BreeVDKamp · 19/06/2014 03:27

I met a girl Indigo nn Indi, so seems very girly name for a boy to me!

I thought it was v cool. Had sisters Dolce and Aubrey if you like them?

Me too Coruskate

It's a new agey nonsense name for brats I'm afraid Op. That would put me off using it.
