Tuli?

I heard this recently. Does anyone know if it's for a boy or girl, or unisex, and where it comes from, as I've never heard of it before. Quick internet search isn't throwing up much.
Also do you like it as a name? I'm not sure I do personally, though it would make a better name for a boy.

Isn't it the name of Ian Rankin's wife/muse?

taccure · 16/06/2014 22:09

I don't know. I haven't read the Ian Rankin books.

Interesting!

How is it pronounced?

Is it 'Tooly' or 'Tyoolie' to rhyme with Julie....?

taccure · 16/06/2014 22:14

Yes Tooli, just 'tool' as in a woodworking tool, with an 'i' sound at the end.

Northey - I've just searched for 'Ian rankin tuli' and it came up with a link to this thread at the top of search results Grin

it's a nn for tulisa.

TheHorseHasBolted · 16/06/2014 23:37

Did you hear it or see it written down? I know there is a Finnish name Tuuli, which I assume would be pronounced the same. That version is definitely for a girl.

manicinsomniac · 16/06/2014 23:42

I knew one at university, although I don't know if it was spelt like that or not. She was a girl and, I think, Norwegian.

taccure · 17/06/2014 01:14

Heard and saw it written down. But don't know if it was a boy or girl. It was at an 'event' (sorry to be cryptic)

It was spelt Tuli most definitely.

So, it might be Finnish, Norwegian or a nn for Tulisa.

I know a Tuli Mae. She's lovely and so are her parents.

burgatroyd · 17/06/2014 08:13

Tully is one of the protagonists in firefly lane, published recently. They were handing out free samplers in London Liverpool street. Her full name is Tallulah which she hates and only goes by Tully. I prefer Tuli prn two Lee. Really like it in fact.

nutellacake · 17/06/2014 08:19

Tuuli is definitely a Finnish name. Not to be confused with tulli which is the Finnish word for border customs Smile

Haggisfish · 17/06/2014 08:21

Although there is a baby dragon programme called tuli on baby TV!

devoncreamtea · 17/06/2014 08:33

Tuli is sweet, but how about Tula? I heard that t'other day and thought it was pretty.

Innermagic · 17/06/2014 08:40

Yes haggis I was going to say the sweet little dragon thingy on baby tv, nice name actually.

HouseLikeAZoo · 17/06/2014 08:57

Tuli is Finnish for fire. Not heard it used as a name in Finland.

Tuuli is Finnish for wind/breeze and is a lovely girl's name.

The pronunciation is very distinct, it's a short "u" in tuli as opposed to a long "ooo" sound in Tuuli.

idontlikealdi · 17/06/2014 10:24

Tuli is the purple slug / snail from baby TV.

taccure · 17/06/2014 10:46
Grin

I like it and it is not too unusual or hard to remember or pronounce.
