Leon

We're feeling like Leon could be a strong contender:

  1. positive associations (the film, the band, Leonardo)
  2. it's not overly popular (although Leo is...)
  3. it's easy to spell
  4. it's easy to pronounce
  5. I think it's quite cool without being trendy
  6. great meaning
  7. it goes with last name and our first names

I think this could be it!

What do you think?

I forgot to say one drawback is that our next door neighbours have got a new dog and named it Leo. We're hearing lots of "Leo! Good boy!" over the fence, but I think they are just training him, so could be less of that in years to come. I don't it would deter me entirely, although it could be slightly annoying.

I like it although I know a thuggish but quite sexy man by that name too which makes me like it more.

nasara · 15/06/2014 19:12

Thanks, BigusBumus! Another plus point, it works on all stages of life from newborn to older gent .

Any other reactions appreciated Smile

I adore it, love it's meaning and the way it looks and sounds. It's a very handsome masculine name in my opinion. X

baskingseals · 15/06/2014 22:56

I love this name. Good choice.

Bellyrub1980 · 15/06/2014 23:16

I always secretly loved a boy in college with this name. It's strong but friendly.

OutragedFromLeeds · 16/06/2014 02:45

I LOVE it. Underused imo. I know two Leons, both absolutely lovely.

Strokethefurrywall · 16/06/2014 04:17

Fabulous name! My ex-boyfriend is a Leon and he's a great guy.

I would have considered it for DS2 if it wouldn't have been weird to give my second born the same name as a ex, no matter how nice he is!

It's underused and classic, definitely use it.

Marnierose · 16/06/2014 11:37

It's sounds like you have decided op.

nasara · 16/06/2014 19:45

Thanks for the positive comments - sometimes you have to check your hormones aren't playing cruel tricks on you and we've sworn not to discuss names with friends and family, so you are the best next thing!

Isn't that grumpy old judgemental git off Gogglebox called Leon?
(Leon & June)

Trust me to remember that :) I'm a mine of useless information.

losingmybelt · 16/06/2014 19:49

Having said that, Leon is a very nice name. Unusual too and far better than Leo.

LEMmingaround · 16/06/2014 19:52

My dd would have been a Leon. I did have reservations as dp's favourite film was "leon" about a hit-man

Squirm · 17/06/2014 08:26

It's a good name. Timeless I think; whereas Leo is of the moment.

jaykay34 · 17/06/2014 11:06

I love it ! I think its timeless and although everybody has heard of it - it's not common.

Legionofboom · 17/06/2014 11:14

4) it's easy to pronounce

I know a Leon who pronounces it Lee-on and gets very annoyed that some people insist on saying Lay-on. Not sure it's really an issue but I thought I would mention it.

Dizzywhore · 18/06/2014 11:15

Hate it! Sorry!

Trooperslane · 18/06/2014 11:23

I love Leo, Leon not as much.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 18/06/2014 11:59

Go for it.

Chachah · 18/06/2014 12:03

not sure about here, but in France Léon is one of the trendy granny-chic names. Everyone I can think of named Léon was famous around 1900, but now there are also lots of Léon babies!

Sidthesausage · 20/06/2014 20:47

Fab name

NewtRipley · 21/06/2014 18:51

I really like it. I recommend it on here quite a lot. It's good for a child and an adult.

I also like Levi

MarniS · 07/07/2014 14:28

My son is a Leon and he's very cool, popular and a bit cheeky. Great name :) but biased xx

Gingerjv · 07/07/2014 20:34

I think it is really nice name! Leon...almost like a lion! King, hero and winner! Great choice)

CoffeeChocolateWine · 07/07/2014 20:38

Love it. My DD could well have been Leon had she been a boy.
